Work placements expand learning for Sask high school autobody students
Saskatchewan high school students are getting a hands-on introduction to the autobody industry thanks to a partnership between Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre (Sask DLC) and Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
The two institutions are offering a one-day learning camp at Sask Polytech’s Regina campus for students enrolled in online autobody courses. The camp gives students the chance to learn directly from instructors and hear from industry professionals.
Sask leads country in annual rent growth for purpose-built rentals
Saskatchewan posted the highest annual increase in rent for purpose-built rental apartments in March, against the national trend of year-over-year declines in the Canadian rental market.
The average asking rent for all residential properties across Canada rose 1.5 per cent month-over-month to $2,119 in March, according to the latest National Rent Report by Rentals.ca and Urbanation. This marks the first month-over-month increase since September 2024.
Nationally, rents were still down 2.8 per cent compared to a year earlier — the sixth straight month of annual declines.

Moose Jaw, SK – With the conclusion of the Moose Jaw Warriors’ season, General Manager Jason Ripplinger and the Moose Jaw Warriors scouting staff are preparing for one of the organization’s biggest days of the year – the WHL Prospect Draft.
The 2025 drafts begin on May 7 with the WHL Expansion Draft and the first round of the WHL Prospects draft. The US Priority Draft and the remaining rounds of the Prospects Draft will follow on May 8. The CHL Import draft will follow later in the summer.
Moose Mountain Provincial Park to see backcountry sites, Chalet upgrades
The provincial budget, announced on March 19th, plans for some upgrades and developments at Moose Mountain Provincial Park. The park will soon feature back country camping sites as well as upgrades to the Visitor Centre.
Tanya Lawson, the acting Executive Director for Park Operations with the Ministry of Parks, Culture, and Sport, said the two new backcountry locations are within their existing trail system and will provide an 'off the beaten path' style of camping for those who prefer a more rustic experience.
Sask. budget boosts funding for short line railways by nearly 90 per cent
The Saskatchewan government is nearly doubling its investment in short line railways, a move being welcomed by industry leaders who say it will improve safety, infrastructure, and economic resilience across rural parts of the province.
The 2025-26 provincial budget includes a $470,000 increase to the Short Line Railway Improvement Program (SRIP), bringing the total annual funding to $1 million. The money will be distributed among 13 short line railways operating in Saskatchewan.

The Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) says municipalities are responsible for developing and operating 60 per cent of Canada’s public infrastructure — everything from roads and water systems to recreational facilities — yet they have the least fiscal capacity of any order of government.
Sask. RCMP update wanted persons list
The Saskatchewan RCMP has updated its monthly list of wanted individuals, highlighting offenders considered to present a significant risk to public safety across the province.
The RCMP says the list is not exhaustive, but features individuals selected through a data-driven scoring system that uses the Crime Severity Index — a national tool from Statistics Canada that considers both the frequency and seriousness of offences. Personal factors such as age, gender, or background are not considered in determining the offenders featured.
