Pet snake loose in Bow Ridge

A pet snake has gone missing in the Bow Ridge Drive area, and the owner is asking for Cochranites help in returning it home safely.

The Snake is a rare Yellowtail Cribo, and is listed as being between five to six feet long says owner Kirsten Hack.

The snake escaped its enclosure during the night through a crack in the window screen before making its way under the deck and then into the neighbourhood.

Muddy bike trails warrant caution across Cochrane

Biking in and around Cochrane is a popular activity enjoyed by many. With the recent rise of gas prices some may even be using biking to get to and from places more often than before, but rainfall from the weekend has left the trails in a vulnerable, and in some cases dangerous state.

President of Bike Cochrane Robert Martens says that biking on wet unpaved trails can be dangerous. "Some areas that are really wet you need to be careful, of course, so you don't slip in the mud, because mud can be very slippery".

Cochrane Wide Clean Up coming this Saturday

Help keep Cochrane beautiful this Saturday when the Cochrane Wide Clean Up event takes place.

On June 11th from anywhere in between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Cochrane residents are encouraged to head out to any of the 14 different stations setup throughout the town (map located below) to pick up litter and help keep Cochrane clean.

All the necessary supplies will be located at the stations, bags gloves, and even snacks to have while you're helping to keep Cochrane clean.

Temporary closure at Highway 1A and 5th Avenue today

The 5th Avenue turnoff, of Highway 1A will be closed today until approximately 5 p.m.

It has been closed since about 9 p.m. Friday.

The reason for the closure is to install the new water main for Sunterra and Cochrane Heights communities.

It is expected that water service will not be interrupted while the water line is being installed.

Access to downtown Cochrane will be detoured at Fourth Avenue.

Access to the businesses along the 100 block of 5th Avenue can be done from 1st Street.

Maritime Night returns to Legion

To the delight of many, Maritime Night is returning to Cochrane.

After being forced into a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fundraiser is being held Saturday, June 11 at the Cochrane Legion Hall.

Legion treasurer Betty Mazurik says they're offering a full dinner of steak and lobster, with all the fixings.

"Then we're going to find some maritime music and put it on the big screen and hopefully everybody will dance and drink the night away".

RCMP seeking assistance in locating Sundre woman

RCMP in Sundre are seeking the public's assistance in locating a missing woman.

Rikki-Lee Glen, age 36 is a resident of Pincher Creek and was seen last on Thursday May 26, 2022, at around 3 p.m. in Sundre.

Rikki-Lee Glen (36) is described as having light coloured skin. She is 5’3 and 110 lbs and has shoulder length brown hair. She is missing teeth and wears glasses and has a tattoo sleeve on her left arm, a neck tattoo, lip and a nose piercing.   

The biggest show in town

The circus will be in Cochrane today, when The Great Benjamin Circus rolls into town.

Show manager Tomi Liebel says that spectators can expect "A good time, big crowd, lots of laughs, and that we do have a lot of extraordinary things that are going to impress a lot of people".

Liebel also said that his favourite part of the show is the motorcycles in a cage, and that they will be a big part of the show.

Show times are scheduled for 4:30 this afternoon, and 7 p.m. tonight, down at the Spray Lakes Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

Construction along Highway 1A ramps up

Starting today the improvements being made to Highway 1A in Cochrane will be ramping up.

The right-hand turn-off lane going off of Highway 1A and onto 4th Avenue northbound has had its construction completed and be paved this week.

Today, May 24 through June 4 the intersection of Highway 1A, and Centre Avenue will be getting paved, as well as westbound Highway 1A lanes.
