Rickford sworn-in to Doug Ford’s Cabinet, will serve two Ministries
Kenora Rainy-River MPP Greg Rickford has been named to Premier Doug Ford’s Cabinet.
In this session of Parliament, Rickford will once again serve as Ontario’s Minister of Northern Development, as well as the Minister of Indigenous Affairs. He was sworn into his role earlier this morning.
Tornado Watch in Kenora, 120 km/h winds possible
A Tornado Watch has been issued for the Kenora, Grassy Narrows, Whitedog, Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls and Morson areas.
Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of possible tornadoes, up to 120 km/h winds, nickel to golf ball-sized hail and heavy downpours, as early as this afternoon into tonight.
Residents are warned to seek shelter immediately if threatening weather approaches. Environment Canada says this is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.
Sedesky Road reopens, city monitoring Dingwall Ford area
Kenora residents in the Sedesky Road area are now able to return to their homes.
The City of Kenora says remedial work in the area has been completed and Sedesky Road is now open for safe travel. An evacuation on Sedesky Road was ordered on June 2 by city staff, while repairs to raise the grade of the roadway began on June 20.

Provincial Constable (PC) Andrea Degagne with the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is being recognized for her determination and commitment to her community.

City accepts bid for one-year lease of Main Street lot
The City of Kenora has found a new business to take over a vacant space in Kenora’s downtown core, helping to bring more visitors to Main Street and to help councillors reclaim a $135,000 investment.
BeaverTails Kenora now has a one-year lease on the City of Kenora’s property at 117 Main Street South, ending in April, 2023. The owner says they’re still setting up services and aren’t open yet, but they can expect monthly payments of $1,000 plus HST for the site, which will go into city revenues.

Final school day for students and Kenora Catholic’s Paul White
Today’s the final school day for local students who are looking to get out and celebrate the summer season.
But this school year ending has been fairly unique for Kenora Catholic’s Director of Education, Paul White, as he’s set to move into the next phase of his life and enter into retirement as of the end of the day today, after over 30 years in education.

'How are people surviving?': Gas spike detrimental for rural mail carriers, residents
A mail carrier says her out-of-pocket costs for delivering packages along her rural route have doubled because of the steep hike in gas prices and cost of living being experienced by many Canadians.
"The stress is exhausting," said Jennifer Henson, a Calgary mother of two boys and one of 11,000 rural and suburban mail carriers delivering letters for Canada Post across the country.
