New Coney Footbridge to be installed, with temporary measures

Staff with the City of Kenora are working to install the brand-new Coney Island Footbridge, but some temporary revisions will need to be made.

City Council, in their first meeting since their inaugural swearing-in ceremonies on Tuesday, approved the installation of temporary construction railings and lights for at least the start of the winter season.

Absent from practice, intrigue deepens around Grey Cup status of Bomber QB Collaros

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were minus quarterback Zach Collaros in their first practice of Grey Cup week.

Backup Dru Brown took first-team reps Wednesday amid blowing snow at a minor-league field in suburban Regina.

Collaros sustained an apparent right ankle injury when he was tackled in the fourth quarter of Sunday's West final win over the B.C. Lions.

Collaros walked back onto IG Field with a heavily taped ankle for Winnipeg's final series, but began limping and quickly returned to the sidelines.

New Mayor, Councillors sworn-in at City Hall

Kenora officially has a new Mayor and Council – who will serve until 2026.

At City Hall on Tuesday night, community members joined city staff as the City of Kenora held their official swearing-in ceremony for the newly-elected Mayor Andrew Poirier and Councillors Graham Chaze, Barb Manson, Bob Bernie, Kelsie Van Belleghem, Lisa Moncrief and Lindsay Koch.

NorWOSSA 'AA' court sports have come to an end after a full day of playoffs yesterday.

The Beaver Brae Broncos Senior Girls' Basketball teams went on to the finals after taking down the Fort Frances Muskies but ultimately fell to the Dryden Eagles in the finals 59-20.

It was the same thing for the Sioux North Warriors' Junior Girls. They won in the semi-final but fell in the championship game to Fort 36-18.

CUPE calls for Monday strike action as negotiations fall through

Schools could shut down by Monday as Ontario’s education workers have given another 5-day notice to strike.

“It will be a full strike on Monday but our goal is to get a deal done,” says CUPE’s Ontario School Board Council of Unions’ President, Laura Walton.

“From the beginning, we’ve been focused on improved jobs for education workers and improved services for students. For us, there is no one without the other,” Walton adds.

Chinese president accuses Trudeau of leaking details of conversation to media

Chinese President Xi Jinping has complained to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about alleged media leaks, and accused him of harming diplomatic relations.

The two had a discussion Wednesday at an event during the G20 summit in Indonesia and media were able to record the brief conversation.

"Everything we discuss has been leaked to the paper; that's not appropriate," Xi told Trudeau through an interpreter.

"That's not how, the way the conversation was conducted. If there is sincerity on your part --" Xi said, at which point Trudeau interrupted.
