Police searching for 50-year-old last seen October 11

Officers with the Treaty Three Police Service are asking for the public’s help in finding missing 50-year-old Kirk Boucher.

Boucher was reported missing by family members from Shoal Lake #39 First Nation on November 11. He was last seen travelling on foot on October 11 on Highway 71, from Manitou Rapids First Nation to the City of Kenora.

Members of the Treaty Three Police Service say he may be in the City of Kenora, surrounding First Nation communities or the Rainy River District.

Kenora Hospital declares COVID-19 outbreak

Hospital-wide visitor restrictions are in effect at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital as leadership declares a COVID-19 outbreak.

The hospital’s Infection Control Team says they’re investigating the origin of the outbreak and staff are working in partnership with the Northwestern Health Unit to ensure effective control strategies to protect patients.

Alan 'Esky' Demontigny

It is with broken hearts that the family of Alan Demontigny announces his unexpected passing on Monday October 10, 2022 at Lake of the Woods Hospital. 

Esky was born on July 5, 1956 in Russell, Manitoba to parents Anne Demontigny and Frank Demontigny. Alan was one of the younger kids in his family of 9 siblings. He was a father of two and a proud member of Gambler First Nation. Alan loved life in Kenora, he belonged close to the water. 

Warrant arrest leads to drug charges for two from NWO

Two people from Ignace and Thunder Bay are facing drug trafficking charges after an arrest in Dryden.

The Dryden OPP says on November 13, officers observed an individual with an outstanding warrant and placed the individual under arrest. But upon further investigation, officers located and seized fentanyl, methamphetamine and items associated with drug trafficking.

As a result, 33-year-old Monique Olson from Ignace has been charged with:

- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x 2,

Nov. 15 Sports Update

It's time for NorWOSSA 'AA' playoff action. Sioux Lookout and Pelican Falls are playing host to four divisions in a jam-packed day.

The Junior Boys' Volleyball Semi-Final will see the Warriors and Fort Frances Muskies battle it out. The winner will go to the final to take on the Beaver Brae Broncos. For the Senior Boys, it will be Fort and Beaver Brae with the winner going on to Sioux North.

Kenora drivers are reminded of traffic delays downtown today as crews with Synergy North and the city set up the Main Street Christmas Tree.

CJ Edwards brought the tree from a resident’s home on Shauna Crescent to the downtown core this morning, allowing Valleyview students to see the gigantic tree in motion.

The tree lighting ceremony is set for 5:30 on Friday!

Health Canada importing more kids' pain and fever meds to restock store shelves

A foreign supply of children's pain and fever medication should land on Canadian retail shelves in the coming weeks, Health Canada said Monday.

The agency, which had previously announced it was importing acetaminophen and ibuprofen to be distributed to hospitals, said the new retail supply should help families struggling to treat their sick children. 

The move follows a months-long shortage of Tylenol, Advil and alternative brands that has sent many parents and caregivers scouring bare shelves and swapping tips on drug sightings. 

OPP request assistance in locating missing woman

The Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is requesting the public's help in locating a missing woman.

31-year-old Lorhonda Shingebis was reported missing on November 14, 2022. Lorhonda was last seen in the area of Meno Ya Win Way on November 7. She is described as 5'5", 120lbs, slim build with shoulder-length brown hair, which she usually keeps in a bun. 

Shingebis was last seen wearing a light brown jacket, grey sweat pants and carrying a small black backpack. 

Gas prices dip in Kenora, Ontario introduces tax cut extension

On the same day the Ontario government introduced an extension on their tax cut on fuel costs, the price of gas in parts of northwestern Ontario began to drop – but we’re still paying the highest price across the province.

As of November 15, GasBuddy is reporting that fuel stations in Kenora are charging 189.9 per litre – a slight drop from the 192.9 per litre we’ve been paying since September 27, 2022.

Despite the drop, that’s still the highest price across all of Ontario and the 12th highest price across Canada, behind 11 communities from British Columbia.
