Wauzhushk Onigum approved to operate FM radio station

Another radio station will soon be coming to the region.

Wauzhushk Onigum Nation has been approved by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to operate a low-power, English- and Ojibway-language Indigenous FM radio station.

The radio station would operate under WONation Radio Inc. at 101.3 MHz with an average effective radiated power (ERP) of 27 watts and will provide a voice to the community that would revitalize and promote its rich culture and traditions. 

'Words cannot describe our grief': 2 officers killed in Ontario shooting identified

An officer who worked with outreach and mental health teams and a veteran constable who was a trained crisis negotiator were identified Wednesday as the two police officers who died after a shooting in Innisfil, Ont. – an event that left residents of the quiet community in shock. 

The South Simcoe Police Service said the officers had responded to a disturbance at a home in the town north of Toronto around 8 p.m. Tuesday when the shooting took place. 

Inquiry into government's use of Emergencies Act starting today in Ottawa

The public inquiry investigating the federal government's unprecedented use of the Emergencies Act in February begins today in downtown Ottawa.

Parties to the inquiry including "Freedom Convoy" organizers, the prime minister, seven federal ministers, police forces and officials from all levels of government are expected to appear in the coming weeks.

Commissioner Paul Rouleau and his staff are expected to spend the first day presenting documents and evidence ahead of witness testimony starting Friday.

All Candidate Debates tonight in Dryden, Sioux Lookout

Dryden and Sioux Lookout residents will be able to hear more from their future council members tonight, as each community hosts an All Candidate Debate ahead of the municipal election.

The Dryden District Chamber of Commerce has organized Dryden’s events tonight at The Centre, beginning at 6 p.m. A live stream will also be made available through their Facebook Page.

Oct. 12 Sports Update

The St. Thomas Aquinas Saints are on a winning streak and are back home after the sweep against Ignace.

The Saints down the Falcons in both senior and junior boys' volleyball matches in straight sets. The senior girls took it 38-34 in their basketball game. The high scorer was Emmy Anderson with 14 points.

The Beaver Brae Broncos are back from Sioux Lookout after a few matches against the Warriors yesterday.
