The Canadian Museums Association is calling for legislation, money and a cohesive national strategy to support Indigenous-led reconciliation in the museum sector.
The association detailed the work needed in a report released Tuesday that includes 10 recommendations to help spur Indigenous self-determination at every level of a museum’s operations.
Canada Posts launches four stamps recognizing residential schools and reconciliation
Canada Post is launching four new stamps showcasing Indigenous artists' visions for truth and reconciliation.
The Crown corporation says this is the first in an annual series meant to encourage reflection on the painful legacy of Canada's residential schools.
The stamps were released on Thursday, a day before the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Friday.
The series features artwork by Jackie Traverse, Gayle Uyagaqi Kabloona, Kim Gullion Stewart and Blair Thomson. The stamps are inscribed with the Indigenous language of each of their creators.
City installs new crosswalk on Highway 17
Kenora drivers are urged to keep an eye out for pedestrians in the Highway 17 and Fifth Street South area, as the city has installed a new crosswalk at the lights.
That’s the intersection by the Days Inn, Kenora’s A&W and Home Hardware.
Both motorists and pedestrians are asked to proceed with caution as everyone adjusts to the new sidewalk, and you’re asked to take extra time to ensure that the crosswalk is clear before proceeding onto Highway 17 east.
U18 AAA Thistles season opening series against Cougars
The Kenora U18 AAA Thistles open the 2022-2023 hockey season with a pair of games at the Kenora Recreation Centre this weekend.
The season opener is Saturday, October 1, 2022, 7:30pm against the Southwest Cougars.
Sunday, the Thistles host the Every Child Matters hockey game against the Cougars. Fans are invited to wear orange to the game.
The afternoon will open with a drum ceremony and Kenora Thistles players will be wearing orange jerseys with a custom "T" logo designed by Justin Fobister. The jerseys will then be auctioned off during the game.

OPP searching for 23-year-old Kenora man after assault
A 23-year-old Kenora man is wanted by police after an assault in Dryden.
The Dryden OPP says on September 25, officers and Northwest EMS paramedics responded to a report of an assault at an unidentified location at 10:23 a.m., and found one individual with serious injuries. They were later transported to the hospital for treatment.
