Diane was a good, kind and beautiful soul who loved everyone. She worked at Migizi Wazason Childcare Centre. She enjoyed fishing by boat and ice. She loved beading, going to bingo, visiting the casino, hanging out with family & friends. She dearly loved her babies.

Neil Gregor MacLeod passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loving family on September 19, 2022 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, at the age of 70 years.
Neil was predeceased by parents Len and Barbara MacLeod; brother Rodney Leonard MacLeod and mother-in-law Alice Arch.

Hurricane Ian nears Florida landfall with 155 mph winds
Hurricane Ian rapidly intensified as it neared landfall along Florida's southwest coast Wednesday morning, gaining top winds of 155 mph (250 kph), just shy of the most dangerous Category 5 status. Damaging winds and rain lashed the state, and the heavily populated Naples to Sarasota region was at highest risk of a devastating storm surge.
Kenora Cat Shelter Pawp-up Shop now open
The Kenora Cat Shelter has been volunteer run since 2003 and as Celynn Alcock prepares to retire, the shelter is looking for a new, permanent location.
The Cat Shelter hosts a number of fundraisers throughout the year and currently, you’re invited to visit their pawp-up shop located at 239 Second Street South.
The shop is open Wednesday to Friday from 11:00am to 4:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
Purchase books, crafts and baked goods, with all proceeds going to the Kenora Cat Shelter.
On Saturday, October 8 they will be hosting a pie sale.

Distraught residents of a southwestern Newfoundland town shared stories of survival with Justin Trudeau on Wednesday as the prime minister got a close look at yet another coastal town shattered on the weekend by post-tropical storm Fiona.
"We barely made it out," Amy Osmond told Trudeau between sobs as she struggled to recount her memories of the day the storm hit Port aux Basques, forcing her to run for her life while trying to grab her dog and keys.
Major water level drops expected this week
Staff with the Lake of the Woods Control Board say as they work to get ahead of the winter freeze-up, some fairly major water level decreases can be expected over the coming days.
After a summer of being in its 95th percentile level for this time of the year, Lake of the Woods has dipped to its 75th percentile level – still quite high, but not quite as drastic as levels were earlier in the season.
Hurricane Ian gets nasty quickly, turbocharged by warm water
Hurricane Ian is quickly gaining monstrous strength as it moves over oceans partly heated up by climate change, just like 30 other Atlantic tropical storms since 2017 that became much more powerful in less than a day.
This turbocharging of storms is likely to become even more frequent as the world gets warmer, scientists say.
Rogers/Tbaytel reports landline issues in NWO
Tbaytel says crews have been dispatched to address an issue with landline services in Kenora, Dryden and Fort Frances.
Tbaytel says technicians are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue, and staff apologize for any inconvenience the outage may cause.
Tbaytel says the issue was reported early this morning.

Kenora's 1st annual All Women's Golf Tournament in memory of Anchilla McDonald helped raise over $5,000 for the Lake of the Woods District Hospital last weekend!
The top team of Megan Derouard, Sheri Grafham, Jen Carlson and Christine Derouard took home the trophy after shooting a combined score of 71.
Volunteers are thanking everyone who came out to support the event, and they're already looking forward to next year.
