A 29-year-old Calgary woman is facing two charges after allegedly spraying three people with bear mace in a local business on Monday.

The Dryden OPP says on September 12, police received a call to a business on Government Street saying that a person walked into the business, sprayed three individuals with bear spray, and left.

The OPP made the arrest on September 14.

As a result, 29-year-old Kaylee Crowchild of Calgary, AB has been charged with:

- Assault with a weapon,
- Causing a disturbance,

It may not be the nicest weekend for it, but Kenora youth have a couple more days of fun at the Rotary Splash Park for the season.

The Rotary Splash Park will be shutting down for the season on Sunday, September 18, with staff beginning to winterize the park on Monday.

The city of Kenora thanks the public and the Kenora Rotary Club for their continued support of the splash park, and staff look forward to reopening in the spring of 2023.

A new hockey season is just around the corner and the Winnipeg Jets made a not-so-common announcement on Friday.

Blake Wheeler has been the captain of the Jets since Andrew Ladd was traded to the Blackhawks in February 2016. On Friday the Jets not only announced that Wheeler will no longer wear the 'C' but that nobody will be the captain of the team as the season gets underway.

"It is the determination of the coaching staff that we will enter the 2022-23 season without a specific captain," Jets' new head coach, Rick Bowness says.

Men's slo-pitch in Kenora has come to an end as all three division champs were crowned last night. The Beauty Bay Cubs took down the D Smith A's in a tight battle winning 11-10.

This weekend’s fundraising games between the Dryden GM Ice Dogs and Red Lake Miners could be the first step to bringing the Superior International Junior Hockey League to Kenora permanently.

Construction has started on a major expansion to the Dryden Memorial Arena, part of an eventual $5 million renovation project.

Community Services Manager with the City of Dryden, Steve Belanger, explains that work on the arena’s new community hall space above one of its ice surfaces has started and is set to wrap up by the summer of 2023, with more projects expected afterwards.

Users of the Turtle Portage Marine Railway on Lake of the Woods are warned that the system will remain closed until the spring, with crews beginning their rehabilitation work on September 19.

The marine railway provides a 400-foot shortcut for users to move their boats between Whitefish Bay and Sabaskong Bay on Lake of the Woods, instead of travelling 145 km by boat around the Aulneau Peninsula.

Canada is sending a handful of celebrities alongside its official delegation to the queen's state funeral Monday in London, England.
