Most parents of young children can appreciate the delicacy of those first few dental appointments. Whether because of nerves or the transfer of anxiety from the parent, a visit to the dentist can be something the entire family dreads.

That is, unless their dentist happens to be Dr. Olivia Cui of Grande Dentistry in Cochrane. Dr. Olivia, as she likes to be called, listens carefully to her patients’ needs and customizes their treatment accordingly.

The business many folks in Grande Prairie know as Midwest on Main has been known by a few different names down the years and has served the community’s residents at a number of different locations.

What has always remained constant, however, is the locally owned and operated furniture, appliance and home decor store’s commitment to providing Grande Prairie and northwest Alberta with quality products priced fairly and backed by exceptional customer service.

For many individuals and industries, and due to any number of factors, non-emergency trips to a hospital or clinic for appointments or lab work just aren’t an option. There may be mobility issues at play, or simply the reality of a workplace needing on-site testing, specialized medicals or ergonomic assessments.

‘Multipurpose’ is just one of the ways to describe this month’s UNpacking feature.

Each year, the Swift Current Agricultural & Exhibition Association connects with more than 200,000 people. Community plays a crucial role in the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities, providing them with a sense of belonging, support, and opportunities for personal growth. For our individuals, community involvement is not just beneficial but essential for their overall well-being. 

Between them, Dr. Sesan Banjo and Dr. Omojomi Banjo have four degrees in dentistry.

In 2009, Dr. Sesan Banjo graduated followed quickly by his brother, Dr. Omojomi Banjo, in 2012 in Nigeria, where they were born and where they practiced a few years before moving to Canada. Having completed graduate studies at the University of Saskatchewan, they then enrolled in the dentistry program at the University of Manitoba, where they graduated a second time in 2020.

“I was certified twice,” muses Dr. Sesan. “Doing it all over again, you just get better at what you do.”

Every August Long Weekend, the Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV) in Steinbach hosts Pioneer Days – an event filled with food, demonstrations, and family fun for everyone. And this year is no exception!
