This year’s Hanover Ag Fair is set to be the best one yet! The committee has been hard at work for months now, putting together an event that’s been drawing fans of all ages for years, with some traveling from far and wide to take in bull riding, the mud bog, arm wrestling, Manitoba's Strongest Man competitions, heritage attractions, art, and music.

My husband and I have enjoyed vacationing in Florida and on one of our trips, we attended a church where the Pastor told us a story about a time, he went to help a new friend that he had met that worked in the mining industry. This friend was someone that he wanted to share the love of God with but wasn’t sure how he would go about it.  

Picture this scene, driving your custom, bright yellow, 1949 Ford F1 pick-up truck down Main Street (valued at $45,000, by the way) during a lazy weekend afternoon, catching glimpses and waves from your neighbours and friends as you proudly take it for a spin, and the entire time not only enjoying that ride, but doing it knowing you also helped grow the ministry of Children's Camps International (CCI).

Picture this: a giant obstacle course with trampolines, slides, climbing walls and jumping platforms–really high ones. Oh, and it floats on a lake. Now add your friends, family, bachelor or bachelorette parties, or any other get-together of fun-in-the-sun seekers.

If it sounds like the best time ever, it’s because it just might be.

“Honestly, I haven’t come across a group that hasn’t enjoyed Hoopa Island,” says Gabe Verrier. “It’s perfect for families, groups of friends and corporate events.”

Sobeys’ Steinbach location is not your ordinary supermarket franchise. An anchor store of the Clearspring Centre, it’s intentional about stocking local foodstuffs in a community where supporting nearby producers is part and parcel of life in the Southeast. 

If August 4th wasn’t already circled on the home and office calendars of the Southeast, it should be highlighted in bright colour, underlined, and then circled again, just because.

When I was pregnant with my son (now almost two years old), I remember feeling a lot of fear. Not fear about having a baby, but fear about something happening to my baby. I still remember feeling so anxious in those first few months as I counted down the days until the next ultrasound or doctor’s appointment, just so I could put my mind at ease, knowing that his little heart was still beating. I realized quickly that no matter how badly I wanted to keep my growing baby safe, it really was out of my control. Thankfully all was well and I became a mom to a strong and healthy baby boy.
