After 44 years of ensuring that families in the Southeast have food to put on the table, Hank Klassen of South East Helping Hands officially retired on December 31st, 2024. Months since his departure, his absence at the organization is still bittersweet, but the gratitude for such an amazing person remains.

“I’ve been fixing and replacing auto glass here for twenty years,” he reveals.

Before it became Dedicated, the business at 22 Loewen Boulevard in Steinbach had been Hometown Auto Glass, where Kalstrom got his start back in 2002.

Most people have good and kind days. But for some, the kindness they show goes above and beyond, often not being recognized. That was the reason behind the annual Honour Gala, raising funds for Ste. Anne Hospital.

Schools across the Hanover School Division are facing a growing challenge: a shortage of substitute teachers. To keep classrooms fully staffed, the Division is expanding eligibility and now welcomes applicants with a degree from a recognized university or an Early Childhood Educator Certificate – no education degree required.  

Steinbach is no stranger to hockey, thanks to the Steinbach Pistons. Since lacing up their skates for the first time at the Centennial Arena in 2009, the Pistons have become a source of pride in Southeast Manitoba, etching their name among Canada’s top Junior A teams. Now, with the much-anticipated opening of the state-of-the-art Southeast Event Centre (SEC), the partnership between this modern facility and the Pistons ushers in a new era for Steinbach and the surrounding communities.
