Show us your summer

History, rides, community, celebration and of course, cake. That is what Mennonite Heritage Village’s (MHV) Manitoba Day Celebration is all about.   

Steinbach and area residents visited the MHV on Saturday to celebrate Manitoba’s 153rd birthday.  

Our communities have many events to offer this weekend! 

On Saturday, May 13, we will be at the Mennonite Heritage Village Museum (MHV) for their Manitoba 153rd Birthday Celebration. It is a free-admission event packed with many activities. 

Here are some scheduled events: 

10 AM - Planting Pansies for Mom and children’s activities in the Auditorium  

Raiders Day took place yesterday at A.D. Penner Park and the teams did a great job. The crowd was roaring with cheers as the teams had some great plays.

The Southeast Truck Show took place all day yesterday and was fundraising for Steinbach Community Outreach/Today House, Soup’s On, and Agape House.    

More than 45 trucks showed up for the event. They also had guest speakers from all three charities, as well as awesome music from the Jake Brakes and Young & Haggard. 

Remote control airplanes were soaring through the sky yesterday at the Steinbach Fun Fly event.  

There were plenty of passionate airplane enthusiasts at the event, including Andrew Rodriguez who has a collection of over 40 planes. Then there was Scott Haslam who built some fairly large planes, and his significant other Diana who crocheted pilots for the planes he built. 

The Kleefeld Honey Festival took place on Saturday and it was fantastic. Lots of people came to enjoy the farmers market, chicken dinner, and fireworks. 

Over 70 vendors were set up at the market! They also had arm-wrestling and raffles for a playhouse and a snowmobile. 

So many great photos of what you are driving around this summer! Cars, trucks, bikes, ATVs, canoes...you are getting around in some creative ways!

Kristy Unrau submitted a photo of her husband and son sitting on their ATVs and her photo was randomly chosen to win the latest round of Show Us Your Summer and won a $500 gift card for parts and services from Steinbach Dodge!

Skilled pilots flew planes yesterday and showed up with some awesome tricks. People came out to Steinbach Airport to watch the pilots do rolls, turns, and other aerobatic maneuvers.   

Spectators set up their lawn chairs, took out their binoculars, and enjoyed the nice warm sun. 

Talented cowboys competed the last two days in Grunthal to see who would come out as Event Champion. The title was won by William Barrows who earned outstanding scores throughout the event, and he was able to leave with the cash prize of just over $8,000. 

The bleachers were jam-packed and the weather was perfect. They had a bar, merch, food trucks, and of course, plenty of bull-riding. 

So many delicious looking photos in the last round of Show Us Your Summer!  From berries to ice cream to BBQ, you have some great looking favourite summer time foods!

Mira submitted a photo of her favourite summertime food...blueberries!  She was randomly chosen from all the photos entered and won a $400 variety meat pack from Earls Meat Market.
