Water level of Lake of the Woods normal for early May

Despite perceptions, the water level of Lake of the Woods is normal for this time of year.

Matt DeWolfe, the Executive Engineer at the Lake of the Woods Control Board, says Lake of the Woods is currently in the 50th percentile.

"[It] basically means half the years in the past it's been higher and half the years it's been lower, so we're kind of right in the middle in terms of Lake of the Woods level," said DeWolfe in a conversation with KenoraOnline.

5 to 10 cm of snow possible for Dryden and Sioux Lookout

5 to 15 centimetres of snow are expected to fall in the Dryden and Sioux Lookout areas Monday into Monday night.

As a result, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Savant Lake and the surrounding communities.

Environment Canada notes with temperatures slightly above the freezing mark, rain could mix in with wet snow which would reduce snowfall amounts.

Areas closer to Armstrong and Lake Nipigon could see higher amounts of snow.

The system is expected to move out of the region Monday night.
