Statistics Canada releases newest field crop estimates
With harvest continuing in Canada, Statistics Canada has released its newest report on the estimates for many of the crops being grown.
This month's totals have come as many farmers are seeing an excellent end to a good growing season, with hot and sunny weather helping to dry out the crops.
The latest report takes that into account, as the previous August 29 report only recorded conditions up to July, with the new data going up to the end of August.
Most of the crops are seeing a slight bump in the yields that are being predicted thanks to the new report:
Recent surge in forward hog contract prices

Less surveys, more harvesting: how Statistics Canada is changing information gathering for agriculture
Farmers are currently in the middle of the harvesting season, where time is often crucial to success, so any interruptions can be critical.
At the same time, Statistics Canada is looking to put forward its Field Crop Estimates, which gives buyers and others information on just how much Canada is producing.
That means surveys can come at times when time matters the most for farmers, and Statistics Canada is changing that system to help rely on other sources.
This week's crop report shows 60 per cent of the durum crop is grading #1 CW
Producers in the southeast and up into the northwest part of the province are hoping this week's frost doesn't do much damage.
Farmers continue to evaluate the damage as some areas got hit a little harder than others with the frost.
Saskatchewan's latest crop report shows 64 per cent of the provincial crop is in, up from 42 per cent the previous week.
Harvest is most advanced in the southwest where 93 per cent of the crop is in the bin, the west-central has 80 per cent done, with some producers in the two areas already finished with the harvest.
