City of Dawson Creek wants to hear from residents

The City of Dawson Creek is inviting residents to guide the future of the community by participating in the update of the Dawson Creek Official Community Plan.

This plan guides city decision-making, policies and investments in areas such as land use, infrastructure, transportation, housing, environment, arts and culture, parks and economic development.

Keeping communities safe, Fort St John receives funding

People in Fort St. John will be better served by a collaborative approach to complex social challenges that brings together a diverse range of front-line workers to deliver faster access to services for individuals at risk of harm or victimization.

Safe Community Situation Tables gather front-line workers from the public safety, health and social-service sectors to identify high-risk individuals and rapidly connect them to services and supports they need, before they experience a negative or traumatic event.

No physician coverage for Fairview Health Complex

Due to the inability to secure physician coverage, the Fairview Health Complex Emergency Department will be temporarily without on-site physician coverage for the following time periods:

  • 7 a.m., Wednesday, April 10 to 7 a.m., Thursday, April 11

  • 7 a.m., Friday, April 12 to 7 a.m., Saturday, April 13

During this time, nursing staff will remain on-site in the Emergency Department providing triage, assessments, and referrals for patients to alternate Emergency Departments in neighbouring communities, as needed.

County of GP fire service responds to 14 brush fires in 9 days

The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service is urging the public to use caution after crews responded to several fires.

Over the past nine days, crews attended over 14 brush fire calls, including campfires, yard cleanups, and fires escaping fire pits.   

The County of Grande Prairie remains under a fire advisory due to extremely dry conditions and lack of rainfall, resulting in increased fire hazards. No new burning permits will be issued until conditions improve. Residents need to refrain from burning, if possible, to mitigate the risk. 

Former member of We The Kingdom featured in new film

A former member of We The Kingdom has taken on a new role. 

Last fall, Franni Rae Cash Cain announced she would be leaving the band to pursue other opportunities. 

Since then, Franni landed a role in the Christmas musical Carol, and now that that has wrapped up, Franni has joined the cast of the survival thriller film Hazel.

Franni is joined by Laurie Fortier (The Walking Dead) and Madelyn Dundon (Getting Grace) in this new film produced by Canticle Productions.

We Are Messengers release new album

We Are Messengers have officially released their fourth studio album.

"This album sounds exactly like what is happening in my head and my heart," said frontman Darren Mulligan.

The record, Where The Joy Is, features ten new songs, all co-written by frontman Darren Mulligan alongside an array of respected songwriters, including Jeff Pardo, Jordan Sapp, Ethan Hulse, Hank Bentley and Kyle Williams. The album will also feature collaborations with Ben Fuller and Blanca.

Alberta Pulse names Dr Dengjin Bin as Alberta's Pulse Industry Innovator

The Alberta Pulse Growers (APG) have named this year's recipient of the 10th annual Alberta Pulse Industry Innovator Award. 

Each year, APG recognizes a person or organization whose progressive thinking and tireless efforts helped build Alberta’s pulse industry into the flourishing sector that it is today.

Chair Shane Strydhorst says this year's honoree is Dr DJ Bing with Agriculture and AgriFood Canada's Lacombe Research and Development Centre.
