New online tool for collision reporting now available in Grande Prairie

A new online reporting tool is now available for drivers involved in a collision in Grande Prairie. The City of Grande Prairie and Accident Support Services International Ltd. have launched “Start From Home”, which allows drivers to initiate a report to the Collision Reporting Centre (CRC) from a smartphone or computer.

Youth male arrested for tire slashings in Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie RCMP would like to advise that following the numerous reports of tires being slashed, a subsequent investigation resulted in the identification and arrest of a youth male.

The 14-year-old youth resident of Grande Prairie who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act was charged with:

-Mischief under $5000 (Total of 23 counts)
-Fail to comply with release order
-Fail to comply with court order

Strong west winds moving into the Peace Country

Strong winds are expected throughout most of the Peace Country today.

In Grande Prairie, west winds at 20km/h increasing to 40 gusting to 70 this afternoon. 

Dawson Creek and Fort St. John currently have a Special Weather Statement in effect. 

Residents can expect strong westerly winds of 60 km/h gusting to 80 this afternoon and into this evening with a risk of peak winds reaching 90km/h. 

Temperatures will rise to near freezing once the strong westerly winds develop. 

Canada's privacy watchdog 'concerned' about students' personal info after data breach

The federal privacy watchdog says he's "concerned" about a data breach involving a student information system used across Canada, and his office is seeking more information from the U.S.-based company behind the targeted software.

Privacy commissioner Philippe Dufresne says his office is in touch with PowerSchool, which provides the affected platforms to schools across North America.

Earlier this month, PowerSchool told school boards in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta and elsewhere that it had experienced a data breach between Dec. 22 and 28.

Trump's team indicates he won't hit Canada with tariffs on his first day in office

U.S. President Donald Trump's team is indicating he won't hit Canada with damaging tariffs on his inauguration day.

Shortly before Trump was sworn into office Monday, an incoming White House official who insisted on anonymity pointed reporters to a Wall Street Journal report that said instead of tariffs Trump will instead sign an executive order launching an investigation into alleged unfair trade and currency practices by Canada, Mexico and China.
