Grande Prairie resident charged with first degree murder
On Dec. 7, 2023, the Medical Examiner deemed the death of Grande Prairie resident Brian Buchaski (34), identified by fingerprints a few days prior, to be a homicide. The ongoing investigation lead to the arrest of a suspect on Dec. 8, 2023.
West Grande Prairie Regional Landfill becomes a Transfer Station
Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, December 12, the West Grande Prairie Regional Landfill will change operations.
The facility will continue to accept the same recycling and waste items from residents. Users will now be required to unload their waste by hand into the provided bins for transfer to the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management. There is no impact to curbside collection for residents.
Starting tomorrow, commercial clients will need to take their waste to the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management.
Construction of new Beaverlodge health facility to begin soon
Construction of a new, modern health facility in Beaverlodge will begin in 2024 to replace the current 67-year-old hospital.
With support from Alberta’s government, the Town of Beaverlodge has partnered with Landrex Inc. to build a new state-of-the-art health complex to replace the current Beaverlodge hospital. The new infrastructure will meet current health facility standards and better support local delivery of more innovative and effective health services.

Grande Prairie RCMP will be participating in a food drive this weekend to collect non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army Grande Prairie Community and Family Services.

India is temporarily lifting its import tariffs and restrictions on peas.
President of Pulse Canada Greg Cherewyk says they received word Thursday night that India was temporarily opening the market for peas.
Charity Corner: Fort St. John Association for Community Living
Our charity of the month for December is Fort St. John Association for Community Living.
The Fort St. John Association for Community Living was incorporated on January 23, 1960.
They are a non-profit organization that has contracts with Community Living BC to provide services to adults with developmental disabilities.
They provide services in the Fort St. John and District area.
Taya introduces newest member of family to fans
Worship leader and former Hillsong singer Taya has introduced the latest addition to her family.
Late last week, Taya and her husband, Ben, announced the arrival of their son Bo Benaiah Gaukrodger born on Oct. 20 at 8:15 a.m.
Her firstborn weighed in at 9 lbs and measured 22.5 inches in height.
Alberta Pension Plan survey draws nearly 100,000 participants
An update on the Alberta Pension Plan has been made available by the Alberta Government.
The province held five phone town halls across the province in November, over 76,000 Albertans attended the panels, and over 94,000 of them completed the online survey.
The first phase of the engagement is now complete, and the panel will now analyze what it has heard from Albertans so far.
