A car show on the beach in Manitoba? You best believe it. 

The ninth annual Buffalo Days at Buffalo Point this weekend was packed with many activities and accompanied by summer scenery—all thanks to the beaches nearby.  

They kicked off the festivities on Thursday with a Buffalo Hunt and games. It continued Friday with a golf tournament and Saturday with their Family Fun Fair Day.

It was activities galore in Mitchell for their annual Mitchell and Area Fun Days. 

They kicked off Saturday with a pancake breakfast, followed by the parade—the first for the weekend event. 

From a marketplace and pickup basketball to barrel rides and pro skate demonstrations, there was no shortage of activities for everyone. 

St. Labre 200 competitors and their go-karts take the race track for year 14

The competitors of the St. Labre 200 kicked off the weekend with go-kart making on Friday.  

Twenty-four teams are going head-to-head in a 200-lap race with the go-karts they are crafting in 24 hours at St. Labre.  

Joel Grenier is not only the president of the event, but he is also a competitor.

It’s Mario Kart in real life over at St. Labre for the St. Labre 200. 

On Friday, July 7, teams are provided materials and have 24 hours to build a go-kart. Then, teams go head-to-head in the races on Saturday, July 8. 

Record-breaking Charity BBQ raises more than $8000 for Soup's On

The Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue kicked off Wednesday at SCU on the corner of Main and Lumber with hotdogs, community and face painting.  

Local charities receive the funds raised from the hotdog lunches sold, and it started with a record-breaking amount raised for Soup’s On.  

That final amount is $8201.02, the highest ever. As the total was counted, people came to drop off cheques and donations to add to the total.  

Vita kicks off Canada Day weekend with lawnmower races, rodeo and festivities

Vita is known for their Canada Day celebrations—for a good reason.  

Visitors and community members kicked off the weekend on Friday with wood carving, lawnmower races and bouncy castles. 

There were many activities planned for the celebration including team roping, a rodeo sport, and lawnmower races. Both caught the attention of many, drawing crowds for the evening.  

What's open and closed on Canada Day weekend

With Canada Day weekend coming up, Steinbach store hours will vary, so here is a list of what’s open and what’s closed on Canada Day weekend. 

  • Clearspring Centre will be open from 10 AM to 6 PM. 

  • Sobeys is open from 9 AM to 6 PM, but the pharmacy is closed. 

  • Walmart is open from 9 AM to 6 PM, and Superstore's hours are from noon to 6 PM. 

Lawnmower races, cupcakes and fireworks: What's happening this Canada Day weekend

Canada Day is coming up this Saturday, July 1, and the southeast is no stranger to big weekend celebrations.  

It all kicks off at the Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV) on July 1, where they will have free admission to the museum, activities and entertainment from 9 AM to 5 PM.  

Horse-drawn wagon rides, waffles with white sauce, and an official ceremony at 11 AM are just some activities happening at the MHV.

Wildlife Haven in their busiest season, receives exciting announcement

It's the busiest time of the year for Wildlife Haven and last week, they received an exciting announcement. 

The news was not about animals but about successful proposals, says Executive Director Zoe Nakata. 

“We are receiving four of the visiting pods from the Government of Manitoba,” Nakata says. “They're sea cans. They were retrofitted to be attached to nursing homes during the deep days of the pandemic to make sure that residents could safely visit their loved ones. Now, they're no longer needed,”
