The Kindersley Jr. Klippers are 2-1 so far in the pre-season after splitting a long weekend road trip to Alberta and then earning a 3-1 win at home Tuesday night against the Humboldt Broncos.

The Klippers don't have another game until Monday when they travel to Humboldt, and then the pre-season will finish up on Wednesday at home when the Klippers host the Drumheller Dragons to complete another home-and-home.

Saskatchewan invests $100K in new maternal mental health supports

The Saskatchewan government is putting $100,000 in new annual funding toward expanding maternal mental health supports across the province.

The money will go to the Saskatchewan Perinatal Health Network (SaskPHN), which will use the funds to develop and deliver a provincewide maternal mental health program. The program will offer free in-person and virtual peer support for new and expecting parents.

Government of Canada invests $29.9M to help personal support workers save for retirement

The federal government is investing more than $29.9 million to help personal support workers across Canada build retirement savings, officials announced Wednesday.

The funding will support Common Wealth Pension Services Inc. under the Personal Support Worker Retirement Savings Innovation Program pilot. Over the next 24 months, the program aims to enroll more than 5,000 eligible personal support workers and build over $40 million in retirement savings by offering incentives to open accounts and matching part of participants’ contributions.

Suspect in mass stabbing on Manitoba First Nation killed in crash with Mountie

A brother and sister are dead and several others, including a Mountie, injured after a mass stabbing Thursday on a Manitoba First Nation.

Police say the woman, 18, was among those stabbed by her brother, 26-year-old Tyrone Simard, in the early morning attack on the Hollow Water First Nation northeast of Winnipeg.

The Conservative Party is calling for an end to the Temporary Foreign Workers program; in its place, they are calling for a single program for the agriculture sector.

Leader Pierre Poilievre quoting the latest employment stats from July, points out we now have 14.6  per cent unemployment rate and 1.6 million Canadians unemployed.

He says the principle behind ending the program is very simple. "Canadian jobs for Canadian Workers"

RCMP release update on Richmound arrests

Saskatchewan RCMP have released an update on the Richmound arrests and investigation. 

RCMP released all 16 individuals arrested during the initial raid of the former Richmound School. However, one adult female and one adult male have since been re-arrested. 

The investigation is ongoing, although the RCMP have departed the former Richmound School. During the search of the school, officers seized 13 imitation semi-automatic handguns, ammunition, and a large number of electronic devices. All of this evidence is being examined by investigators. 

Frost making an appearance to start September

After some balmy evening weather ended the month of August, the West Central region has been experiencing a massive swing in overnight temperatures to start September.

That trend has resulted in some troubling weather for anyone with plants or crops in the ground. Double-digit lows were a common sight through the long weekend, but as the calendar flipped, so did the script, as frost made its way into the Environment Canada forecast with lows of around 2 degrees.

RCMP seek wanted murder suspect with ties to North Battleford

Alberta RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit is again asking for the public’s help in locating a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, noting he has ties to North Battleford.

Christian Nyabirungu, 35, is wanted for first-degree murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault in connection with the September 2018 killing of Aldane Mesquita in Strathcona County, Alta.

RCMP say Nyabirungu may have changed his appearance but is described as being six-foot-two, about 240 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and dark skin.

SaskPower posts $136M loss in first quarter; NDP warns rate hikes likely

SaskPower is facing a $136-million loss in the first three months of the 2025-26 fiscal year, prompting warnings from Saskatchewan’s NDP that residents may see increases on their electricity bills.

The Crown utility’s first-quarter financial statements, released this week, show the corporation is moving further into the red, with debt levels rising. The provincial government had projected $126 million in net income for the year in the 2025-26 budget.
