Summer warmth coming to the southeast at the end of the week

The southeast is definitely moving out of winter with some warmth coming in this week after the occasional snowfall left that hanging on into April. Temperatures are expected to be summer-like by the end of the week, a big change from the previous months. Environment Canada Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins explains that the temperatures are due to less snow sticking around in the area.

UPDATE: Leslie "Bill" Bell has been located deceased. His next of kin have been notified.

Preliminary investigation indicates that his death is not believed to be suspicious in nature. The RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance during this time.

Local author happy with her book release

Lisa McCullough has been interested in writing since she was a child. When she was in grade 6, a teacher complimented her on her writing ability and that was the encouragement she needed to continue with it. Poetry was where she started and then things just took off from there. Lisa worked with a couple local papers in Carlyle and Carnduff which kept her writing active and growing.

Estevan Fire Rescue sees calls flare up again with multiple fires reported in first week of April

Estevan Fire Rescue laid out their latest reports from the Estevan community, after a couple of weeks featuring no new reports.

Ending the month of March on the 31st, a call came in around 3:30 p.m. for a commercial fire alarm in the Northeast area of the city. After responding, a crew found the alarm was due to a cooking incident and helped reset the alarm.

Creighton Lodge cooking up big changes with kitchen expansion

Creighton Lodge has officially begun construction on a long-anticipated kitchen expansion, with work getting underway last week.

Once complete, the project will result in a new 2,000-square-foot kitchen and a renovated, larger dining room that will double the lodge’s meal service capacity.

The expansion also supports the lodge’s vision of launching an outreach meal program for seniors in the community.

Ottawa police name suspect in Parliament Hill lockdown incident

Ottawa police have released the name of the person they say was behind a massive security incident on Parliament Hill over the weekend.

Police say Tyler Hall-Worthington, a 31-year-old Ottawa man, has been charged in connection with the lockdown Saturday afternoon at East Block, a building in the parliamentary precinct that mainly houses offices for senators and their staff.

An Ottawa police spokesperson told The Canadian Press that the suspect was still in custody as of Monday morning.

The Liberal and Conservative leaders both started the third week of the federal election campaign in British Columbia — a battleground province with 43 seats up for grabs when Canadians go to the polls.

The Liberals pledged environmental conservation measures and support for seniors, while the Tories offered more efficient approvals for resource projects.
