Midale library's new venue boosts community engagement
The Midale Library has had a busy few months since moving to its new location. The larger venue has allowed the library to expand its programming and offer a wider range of programs to patrons.
Jeri-Lee Jones, head librarian at the Midale Library, said the summer has been a lot of fun so far.
“This summer we’ve had some really awesome events. We’ve had Mr. Eric come and perform at our library, and we also had the Saskatchewan Science Centre outreach program with our children here in town.”

Heat warning issued for Estevan region
Even though it was called to be unlikely, Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Estevan area.
With the weather moving into the southeast, that will bring daytime temperatures above 32 degrees, and tonight temperatures will stick to a low of 16.
Environment Canada expects the heat will continue until overnight Friday into Saturday morning when cooler air will make its way into the region.
In the meantime, Environment Canada asks people to stay cautious, as extreme heat can be harmful to anyone.
Bienfait Minor Hockey registration now open
With summer sports winding down, Bienfait Minor Hockey has opened registration and is looking for players for the U7 and U9 teams.
U7 players are those born between 2018 and 2022, while U9 players are those born in 2016 or 2017.
Skaters aged four and under are eligible for the Learn to Skate program. The league is also looking to add a coach to this program, as well as student volunteers. As the season approaches, they are seeking a few more parents to join the board, coach, or work as team managers.
Registration is open until September 1.
Heavy heat unlikely to bring extreme conditions, major humidity
The southeast is seeing yet another bout with mid-30-degree temperatures, though this one isn't likely to hit the same highs the early heat did.
It'll still be a scorcher, with a lack of cloud cover exacerbating the heat during the daytime.
However, Peter Kimdell, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, says that some of the details in the system will keep it cooler than earlier extreme heat.
Round and round we go
The Fountain Tire Barrel X is set for this long weekend at the Estevan Exhibition Grounds. Action will get underway Sunday & Monday at 9am, there is no admission and it's 2 full days of entertainment. Some of the events include pole-bending, barrel racing, hoofs versus hogs, horses against motorcross riders, and bare-back barrel racing.
Lindsay Collins chatted with Lyle McGillivray on the Country106.1 Big Breakfast Show this morning.
McGillivray in the morning moments
The southeast has been dealing with lots of heat the last few weeks. When you get out in the country on a hot summer night with a haze in the air, this is the kind of photo you end up with. All I needed was a lone tree to add some composition to the shot and bingo, it was presented to me. The glow from the sun behind the tree added a nice feel to the photo.

Cyclist injured in E-Bike collision raises safety concerns
Over the weekend, the driver of an e-bike was struck by a motor vehicle, leading to minor injuries for the cyclist. The incident raised questions about how these low-speed motor vehicles should be handled on the road.
Sergeant Tyler McMillen said there has been an increase in both pedal bikes and e-assist vehicles on the road, which becomes more common during the summer months.
CPKC is reporting strong grain movement as we approach the end of the 2023-2024 crop year
There's been a definite increase in grain moving to market as farmers look to clear out bin space for the new harvest.
Elizabeth Hucker, the assistant vice-president of sales and marketing for bulk with CPKC says in grain shipping week #51 they moved just shy of 400,000 metric tonnes to Vancouver, Thunder Bay, Eastern Canada, the United States and to Mexico all out of Western Canada.
She notes back to around week #49 they were shipping around that 400,000 metric tonne level, adding that movement is stronger than what we would normally see this time of the year.
