RM of Estevan Reeve happy to see energy plans and young faces at annual SARM convention
Estevan had some representation at the SARM Annual Convention as members of the council for the RM of Estevan were in attendance. That includes the reeve for the RM Jason LeBlanc, who sat in on a number of meetings to discuss what was important for the southeast.
Those included meetings with the Crown Investment Corp and even the premier himself on some of the latest from the province.

RM of Enniskillen recognized for innovative grazing project
The R.M. of Enniskillen No. 3 received recognition for enhancing community well-being through the 18th annual Saskatchewan Municipal Awards.
The municipality was awarded the Top Rural Municipal Initiative for the RM of Enniskillen Grazing Project.
The awards celebrate innovative practices by Saskatchewan municipal governments. The projects highlight excellence in sustainable land stewardship, accessibility, cooperation, and addressing community needs.
Estevan police make three arrests in separate incidents
Estevan police arrested three people in separate incidents on March 12. involving court order breaches and an assault at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Police responded to a call at St. Joseph’s Hospital for a report of an unruly patient. A 45-year-old Estevan woman was arrested for assaulting a nurse. She was later released and will appear in Estevan provincial court at a later date.
Saskatchewan introduces changes to fees and charges for electric vehicles, liquor, camping, and more
The government of Saskatchewan is putting out some changes when it comes to fees and charges as 2025 continues.
Their first change is utilizing The Fuel Tax Accountability Act, which ensures that the fuel tax is used properly to help maintain Saskatchewan's roads. As electric vehicles do not pay the fuel tax, Saskatchewan is upping the annual road use charge for these electric vehicles from $150 to $300.
Prime Minister Mark Carney's government terminates consumer carbon price
Prime Minister Mark Carney's first move after taking office on Friday was to eliminate the consumer carbon price, undoing Justin Trudeau's signature climate policy.
Carney addressed members of the media after the Friday afternoon cabinet meeting, saying the government is "focused on action."
"We will be eliminating the Canada fuel charge, the consumer fuel charge, immediately, immediately," he said.
The order-in-council Carney signed in front of cabinet ministers and the press actually stipulates that the "the fuel charge be removed as of April 1, 2025."

More voices join the call to stop a March hunt for elk
Chief Bobby Cameron with the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations says if an over-abundance of elk was a problem, the landowners could have contacted nearby First Nations during the fall hunting season. The FSIN is calling on the government to stop a March hunt of elk.
He notes that First Nations hunters, with inherent treaty rights, don’t have to buy tags and some kind of communication could have prevented an extended antlerless elk hunting season which Chief Cameron calls ecologically irresponsible and culturally insensitive.
Estevan crime down in February, but thefts keep police on alert
The Estevan Board of Police Commissioners reviewed crime statistics and financial reports for February during its latest meeting, highlighting both positive trends and areas of concern.
“We’re in a good position all the way around with respect to all different categories and offence types,” said Chief Jamie Blunden.
Snowy weekend expected to bring new coat to the southeast with possible freezing rain
The southeast will feel a bit wintery this weekend as multiple snow systems are on track to deposit some precipitation over the next few days. That includes a system perching overhead today while another will approach on Sunday, lasting into Monday.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Justin Shelley says that we might even see more than snow from the system hitting us now.
