Estevan Gymnastics Club’s Princess and Superhero Ball: A royal success

The Estevan Gymnastics Club hosted its first-ever Princess and Superhero Ball on Sunday, and organizers are calling the event a major success.

The fundraiser supported the club’s regular operating costs and replaced the traditional raffle ticket sales that parents typically participate in. The club usually hosts three fundraisers per gymnastics session, but this year, organizers opted for a different approach.

Estevan gripped by Southern Impact’s Armageddon arm wrestling event

The Estevan community rallied together for a successful Armageddon arm-wrestling event this past weekend, with over 160 entries and 60 competitors. Farmers in Manitoba now have greater access to vital mental health resources thanks to the Manitoba Farmer Wellness Program (MFWP), which offers no-cost counseling to farmers, their families, and employees over the age of 16.  

Trudeau pushes for RCMP reform during final days in office

During his final days in office, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is pushing for long-promised reform to the RCMP. 

A government report released Monday, which highlights concerns about Canada's capacity to meet "the new threat environment," says it's time to modernize the police service to focus on "the most serious forms of criminality."

It says the government’s vision should be to establish the RCMP as a "world class, intelligence-led, federal policing organization."

Prairie farmers say planned Chinese retaliatory tariffs on Canadian agricultural products are causing loads of uncertainty, while threats of U.S. levies and industry issues have created further problems. 

Bill Prybylski, president of the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan, says China's 100 per cent tariffs on canola oil, meal and peas scheduled for next week are already being felt, as markets have taken a hit.

ECS Senior Girls Curling Team Finishes 4th at Provincials

The Estevan Comprehensive School Senior Girls Curling Team had a strong showing at Provincials, finishing in 4th place after a competitive weekend of play.

The team opened the tournament on Friday with two impressive victories. In their first game, they faced off against Moose Jaw Peacock, coming out on top with a dominant 9-1 win. They followed that up with another strong performance, defeating Saskatoon Holy Cross 7-4. This win secured the team's spot in the playoffs on Saturday.

Estevan police responded to a variety of calls recently, handling incidents such as impaired driving, domestic disturbances, theft, and public safety. Several arrests were made, traffic checks conducted, and officers worked alongside community organizations to ensure public safety.

Estevan Fire Rescue responds to crashes, elevator rescues in first week of March

Estevan Fire Rescue (EFR) was hard at work over the week with a few calls coming in from the local area.

EFR Chief Rick Davies details some of the calls they received and responded to.

On March 3, at around 2:15 p.m., a crew headed to a commercial alarm in the Northeast area of the city. Once they arrived, the crews learned that the alarm was due to electrical contractors performing tests on site and subsequently stood down in response.
