Conexus recognizes future leaders: Midale graduate Reagan Martin awarded $4,000

2024 graduate from Midale Central School, Reagan Martin was awarded the Conexus Credit Union Leadership Award. The $4000 award was presented to graduating students pursuing post-secondary education and displaying great leadership and volunteerism.

BREAKING: Heat warning issued for southeast Saskatchewan

The first heat wave of the year has arrived in southeast Saskatchewan. 

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Estevan and surrounding communities. Temperatures are expected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius for the next 3-5 days, according to the weather agency. Humidity will also be a factor that will add to the heat, as humidex values of 35 degrees can be expected. The weather agency is predicting these conditions will last until the weekend before the temperature cools slightly. 

Souris-Moose Mountain MP says he's fortunate for the support from his riding

Souris Moose-Mountain MP Dr. Robert Kitchen will not be seeking election during the next federal election, currently set for 2025.

He's decided to move out of the role, with a new CPC candidate to be decided in the future, with a nomination process currently ongoing.

Kitchen says all the community support he's received over the years has made it a tough decision.

This beautiful hawk was photographed south of Dunmore, Alberta up in the hills. Whenever in Medicine Hat this is one of my favorite places to visit. 

This hawk is perched on a gatepost, and surprisingly, it didn't take flight right away like they usually do. I was so happy to get several photos both while sitting still and in flight.

AFN head told chiefs draft child-welfare reform deal with Ottawa worth $47.8B: source

The head of the Assembly of First Nations has informed chiefs that a draft deal with Ottawa on child-welfare reforms is worth $47.8 billion, a source who was in the room says — more than double what was initially promised.

National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak revealed that number to chiefs and their proxies on Tuesday afternoon, says the source, who was granted anonymity because they were not authorized to share the details publicly.

Several people in Ontario have become sick with listeriosis in an outbreak that triggered a national recall of certain plant-based milks that may have been contaminated with Listeria.

The Listeria bacterium is found in soil, sewage and untreated water. It can also be found in foods such as meat, seafood, fruits, vegetables and dairy products. 

Dakota Classic Modified Tour races through Estevan Motor Speedway, local talent shines

From Bakersfield, California to the deepest parts of Texas, racers and fans flocked to the Estevan Motor Speedway last night for night 3 of the Dakota Classic Modified Tour. 

"The races were to be expected. The Estevan Motor Speedway has a top notch crew that provides a solid race track week in and week out by bringing the best modified and stock car drivers to the Estevan Motor Speedway. It only magnifies what this race track can do," shared Brandon Beeter, race director for the event.

Beat the heat: Doctor's tips to prevent heat-related illnesses

With the return of the heat to the southeast, medical professionals are reminding everyone to take precautions when it comes to heat-related illnesses.  

Dr. Stanley Enebeli is the Medical Health Officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority for the Weyburn and Estevan areas. He noted those who have chronic medical conditions, infants, the elderly, and those who work outdoors are at a greater risk of developing heat illnesses, which can take many different forms.
