Maple Leaf Foods is splitting its operations and moving the pork business into a new publicly traded company. 

In a statement on the company website, Curtis Frank, President and CEO of Maple Leaf Foods says as separate companies, Maple Leaf Foods and the new Pork Company will each have exciting prospects, a sharpened execution focus with its own dedicated management team.

St. Joseph's Hospital honours beloved couple with opening of Tom & Irma’s Cafe

St. Joseph’s Hospital celebrated the legacy of Tom and Irma Trofimenkoff on Tuesday with a cake and coffee event to mark the opening of Tom & Irma’s Cafe, a new addition dedicated to the beloved couple known for their generosity and presence within the hospital community.

Lori Gervais, executive director of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, explained that the Trofimenkoffs frequently visited the hospital, regularly enjoying lunch with friends and staff, or just visiting in general. 

Moosomin MLA throws his hat in the ring for Souris-Moose Mountain MP

The southeast will seek a new Conservative MP taking the reins after the next federal election.

As announced on July 8, current MP Robert Kitchen will not be up for re-election, and instead, the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) will be looking at a group of nominees.

One of those nominees is Steven Bonk, who has served as the MLA for the Moosomin area since 2016.

City addresses reported smelly waters in news release

With summer in full swing, people will be looking to keep cool with plenty of water - but here in Estevan there have apparently been complaints about the smell of that.

To assuage concerns, the city sent out a press release regarding the issue.

"Please be advised that the City of Estevan is aware of an increased concern in recent odorous water in the community. The odour is a result of naturally occurring seasonal operations and does not reflect a need for concern."

Canada Beef is looking at new marketing opportunities

Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay announced over $6 million for the Canadian beef industry yesterday.

Canada Beef will receive over $5.8 million for market development and promotion.

Canada Beef plays a key role in market development worldwide, with offices in Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Mexico, and Hong Kong.

UPDATE: Moosomin RCMP find stolen vehicle, suspect still at large

UPDATE: The Moosmin RCMP has located the stolen 2015 Jeep Cherokee with no damage and the owner has been notified.

The suspect attempted to steal another vehicle and is still at large. If you see this suspect please do not approach and call the RCMP immediately.

The suspect's last known location was in Virden, Manitoba.

S/Sgt. Dallyn Holmstrom thanked the public for all the help in getting this vehicle located and safely returned.


The Moosomin RCMP is asking the public to keep an eye out for a 2015 White Jeep Cherokee stolen from Wapella.

City of Estevan gives update on 4th Street revitalization effort

The City of Estevan has given another update on its progress with the 4th Street Downtown Revitalization Project, dated June 19.

The update is as follows:

General:

ASL Paving has been engaged for the work, with Turnbull Excavating acting as their underground utilities subcontractor. Work started at the intersection of 4th Ave and 11th Street and is progressing to the West. Underground sewer, storm, and water mains, and the services to buildings is the main scope currently.

Souris - Moose Mountain MP will not see re-election in 2025

A short release sent out yesterday has announced that Souris-Moose Mountain's MP Dr. Robert Kitchen will not be on the ballot during the next election.

In his release, he talked about the service he's put forward over the last ten years.

“It has been a great honour and privilege to serve the people of Southeast Saskatchewan as their Member of Parliament, and to represent them in Ottawa for the last decade,” stated Kitchen.
