LiDAR technology to play key role in new Flood Mapping Project

Last week, the Water Security Agency (WSA) announced a $9 million investment in flood mapping across the province to help mitigate community risk from natural disasters.

Sean Osmar, a spokesperson for WSA, said flood mapping is a program used to identify communities at risk of flooding. To determine a community's flood risk, WSA uses several methods, including Aerial LiDAR, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging. This method uses laser light to measure distances and generate detailed 3D models of the area.

Mel Murray honored for decades of dedication to Estevan baseball

Mel Murray, president of Estevan Minor Ball, was named a Life Member of the Western Canada Baseball Association. While the announcement came a couple of years ago, he was presented with the award in person just last week.

Murray expressed his gratitude for the award and reflected on his over 40 years of involvement in the sport within the community and across the province.

Starting off on field Murray transitioned to coaching for his son and continued coaching other teams thereafter.

Ticketmaster says data security incident may affect users' personal details

Thousands of Ticketmaster users may have had their data compromised in a security breach.

Ticketmaster says it discovered unauthorized activity on an isolated cloud database hosted by a third-party data services provider between April 2 and May 18.

The company learned a few days later that some personal information of customers may have been affected, possibly including email, phone number, or encrypted credit card information.

New Sclerotinia tool helps growers assess disease risk and severity

Growers and agronomists looking for help in making sclerotinia spray decisions this summer will have access to a new online tool from the Canola Council of Canada. Available at , the sclerotinia risk assessment tool offers both a recommendation about whether or not to spray a canola crop (at 20-50 per cent flower) based on several inputs from the user, along with an opportunity to assess the spray decision by rating sclerotinia severity at maturity (30-60 per cent seed colour change).

Gas flare maintenance work set for Welwyn Town Border Station

A controlled natural gas flaring will be conducted at the Welwyn Town Border Station, located within the RM of Moosomin and west of the Village of Welwyn, between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. 

During that time, those in the area may observe a 40-foot flame emitted from the flare stack, temporarily attached to SaskEnergy’s infrastructure.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church with Rev. Thuy Nguyen presiding.  Interment will follow at the Estevan City Cemetery. Please join the family for a time of lunch at the Church Auditorium.

Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay announcing a key investment for Canada's Beef Industry


Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay was in Calgary today to announce more than $6 million for Canada Beef and the Canadian Cattle Association.

The funding through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership - AgriMarketing Program is geared towards increasing awareness and demand for Canadian beef in existing and new markets through advertising and promotional activities such as incoming and outgoing trade missions, technical training, and educational seminars.

Female sports on the right track, but more work is needed

With the recent announcement of Rocanville's Jessica Campbell becoming the new assistant coach for the Seattle Kraken, the tides are turning in favour of women's sports. 

"Honestly, it's coming. The opportunities are growing and if you love your sport, work hard now so that you have an opportunity when you're older to pursue your sport," shared Megan LeBlanc.

SEDA recognizes CF Sunrise with prestigious Chairperson's Award

A program introduced by Community Futures Sunrise started out as something for rural entrepreneurs in southeast Saskatchewan. Soon, it was expanding to the whole province, which attracted the attention of the Saskatchewan Economic Development Alliance. As a result, at their conference in Saskatoon last month, they presented CF Sunrise with the Chairperson’s Award.
