The South East Cornerstone Public School Division on June 17th included what is called a Data Wall Walk. This is a review of data that focuses on student outcomes. The walk covered a variety of topics, including support for students in Grades 4 to 6, Indigenous student achievement, and the well-being of the students overall.
Estevan Fire Rescue deals with noxious odor, alarm calls to finish out June
Estevan Fire Rescue detailed some of the fire calls they went out to over the final week of June.
On June 25, at around 10:06 a.m., crews were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in the Northeast area of the city. After responding, they found that no emergency was occurring, with the alarm attributed to ongoing cleaning.

Parliamentarians likely will get a chance later this year to debate whether to adopt a livestock brand as an official national symbol.
A bill to create the brand was introduced earlier in June by Saskatchewan Conservative MP Steven Bonk.
If the bill passes, the brand will become Canada's 10th national symbol — joining O Canada, the coat of arms and the maple tree.

Samantha Sannella shed happy tears as she stood to sing the national anthem at her citizenship ceremony in early June, nearly three decades after she moved to Canada.
She had sung "O Canada" countless times before, but this was the first time she’d done so as a Canadian.
Originally from Houston, Texas, Sannella moved to Toronto 28 years ago for a job. For the longest time, she still considered herself a U.S. citizen, with a part of her thinking she might move back one day.
But that changed last fall.
Southeast communities list Canada Day plans as busy day approaches
Communities across the southeast are getting ready for a busy Canada Day with a number of activities planned in towns and villages around the area.

Here in Estevan, the local Kinettes Club will be holding its annual celebration, beginning at 11 a.m. at Kin Hillside Park. The food served at the event will include hotdogs, cake, and other treats, while there will be a bouncy castle, paddling pool, and music over the Canada Day celebrations.
Hot weather set to heat up Canada Day celebrations tomorrow
As Canada Day kicks off tomorrow to start up July, the weather will be bringing some summer heat down onto the southeast. Whereas the area hasn't seen much 30-degree weather over the past month, the 1st of July will see a return to that heat along with plenty of sunshine.

Open house aimed to answer questions about Aurora Family Reunification Centre in Estevan
The Aurora Family Reunification Centre in Estevan has officially opened its doors to the public.
Last Friday, the group held an open house at their new facility in Estevan, where they informed the community about their services as well as answered any questions people may have.
UPDATE: Carlyle RCMP issue charge of assault in case on White Bear First Nation
UPDATE: At 1:15 p.m., Carlyle RCMP sent out a new message claiming to have charged a man with assault.
As a result of their investigation, Carlyle RCMP charged 21-year-old Darias Obey from White Bear First Nation with one count of aggravated assault.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest, with Carlyle RCMP actively working to locate him. They describe Obey as around 6’4” and 210 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes.
If a resident sees Obey, RCMP asks not to approach him and instead contact Carlyle RCMP by dialling 310-RCMP.
Energy City Exposure Showcase at Nickle Lake considered a success
This past weekend saw the fourth annual Energy City Exposure Showcase deliver its most ambitious and successful event yet at Nickle Lake Regional Park. The three-day showcase brought together softball players from across the Prairies for a weekend of skill development, games, and face time with college scouts.
A voice for the ages, as 99-year-old helps Torquay celebrate 100
At 99 years old, Kathryn Groshong returned to Torquay to sing once again, taking part in the community’s centennial celebration.
“It was wonderful to come back to Torquay,” she said. “We retired to Weyburn and I’m still there. But when we were at Torquay, our whole family was involved in the music. We were singing in the choir and taking part in musicals. Torquay just seemed to have so much talent.”
Groshong was recognized alongside other seniors aged 90 and up during the weekend’s formal program. Each was presented with a long-stemmed rose.
