Carney's 1st budget to show Canadians the 'cost to sovereignty': experts

Fiscal experts say Ottawa will have to be transparent with Canadians in the upcoming fall budget to justify a seismic shift in spending away from government programs and toward defence and infrastructure.

The federal Liberals are expected to table the annual budget sometime this fall, possibly as early as next month, after forgoing the traditional spring budget.

Fentanyl trial delayed until March

Another long adjournment in a Swift Current fentanyl trafficking trial.

The trial for 26-year-old Swati Narula and 28-year-old Kunwardeep Singh of Calgary is adjourned until March 2nd.

The case had already been adjourned for five months after their most recent appearance in April.

This time the adjournment came at the request of Singh's lawyer.

A witness he wanted to call for the preliminary inquiry was not available on Tuesday.

The earliest date each lawyer and both necessary witnesses would be available is in early March.

Colts earn volleyball gold in Prince Albert

A gold medal to start the season for the Swift Current Comp Colts senior volleyball team.

They won the 16 team St. Mary Invitational Tournament in Prince Albert.

During pool play, the Colts went 3-0 with wins over Nipawin, Waldheim, and N.B. John Paul II. 

The Colts then beat Meflfort in three games in the first round of the playoffs and topped Meadow Lake in the quarterfinals.

It took three games to beat Prince Albert Carleton in the semifinals on Sunday.

Swift Current then beat Lloydminster Comp 25-12 and 25-15 to win the gold.

Fossil Fever ends another summer dino dig season

Fossil Fever heated up with a flurry of participants in this year's dino digs. 

The East Block of Grasslands National Park was buzzing with paleontologists who came out for the yearly event. Students and others from the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, along with other groups, worked to uncover the titanic remains of various prehistoric giants, with a particular focus centred around a 2021 discovery. 

Ryan McKellar, curator of paleontology for the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, was on hand as many hands made light work of a duckbilled dinosaur excavation. 

Highway 37 hit with another round of road work

Anyone heading out on Highway 37 north of Gull Lake will encounter road work. 

About three kilometres north of Gull Lake, a 13-kilometre stretch of the road is being addressed by crews. 

A pilot vehicle is in use, with one lane closed. 

Travellers need to be ready to stop and to obey signage. 

This work is expected to conclude by 5 p.m.

Highway crews operating along stretch of Highway 13

Construction on Highway 13 in both lanes is giving cause for caution to drivers.

Anyone passing by should be ready to stop if necessary and will want to keep a careful eye out for workers. 

 The work stretches from Highway 13 to Highway 37. 

Reduced speeds are being enforced.
