Rock Solid Refuge offers free hot chocolate for Kindness Day
Southwest program for troubled male youth, Rock Solid Refuge, is heading to Swift Current today to give out hot chocolate as a part of World Kindness Day.
Rock Solid Refuge, located near the Town of Shaunavon, will have students and staff set up at four locations around the City this afternoon with free hot chocolate and candy canes.
Dallas Block, executive director at Rock Solid Refuge, noted that the values of World Kindness Day are well aligned with the organization's principles, providing an excellent opportunity to spread some positivity.
Government of Saskatchewan prepares for potential Canada Post service disruption
The Government of Saskatchewan has announced that ministries, Crown corporations, and organizations are putting contingency plans in place ahead of a possible postal service disruption. The labour action could begin as early as November 15, 2024, and the government aims to minimize the impact on clients and suppliers, especially regarding payments.
Switch to Direct Deposit Recommended
To avoid interruptions, the government is encouraging clients and suppliers to opt for direct deposit, which will continue unaffected even if postal services are disrupted.
Salvation Army Christmas Hamper program begins
The Swift Current Salvation Army is now taking interviews for their annual Christmas Hampers.
Families who need a little more help during the holidays are being encouraged to stop by and speak with the Salvation Army about qualifying for a hamper. The Christmas kits come equipped with food and toys to help feed everyone and make sure that children have something to open on Christmas Day.
Ian Scott, the officer for the Swift Current Salvation Army, is hopeful that they can make this year's celebrations that much brighter.

Chrystia Freeland says carbon rebate for small businesses will be tax-free
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland says the Canada carbon rebate for small businesses will be tax-free.
In a statement posted to X late Tuesday, Freeland clarified the parameters of the program after an advocacy group for small business raised concerns that the rebate would be a taxable benefit.
Dan Kelly, president and CEO of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, posted on X soon after that post that he had received a call from Freeland, who offered "assurance" that the rebate would be tax-free.

SWFF catches colossal commitment from Swift Current family
The Southwest Facility Foundation recently obtained a more than significant donation from a local family.
After considering the community and its impact on future generations, Mike and Laura Ann Carefoot have pledged $100,000 to the foundation over the course of 10 years.
Travis Cuthbert, a board member of the Southwest Facility Foundation, highlighted that the organization is grateful for such a substantial commitment and continuous community support.
Kyle still searching for a mayor
While other municipalities are going to the polls today, Kyle is still waiting for someone to step up as a potential mayor.
They do have an acclaimed town council that will hold a meeting tomorrow.
"At that meeting the acclaimed councillors will take their oath and then they will appoint a deputy mayor who will run the meeting," said Kyle CAO Amber Dashney. "They will decide on a byelection date and then from there the nomination day is set and we will post for the position of mayor and as well another councillor position as well."
