Southwest man sentenced after drunk driving incident
A Leader-raised man facing a litany of charges was recently sentenced on one of several counts stemming from a series of various incidents, including driving while intoxicated.
26-year-old Nickalaus Bedore appeared in Swift Current Provincial Court on Wednesday morning with multiple matters on the bench, pleading guilty to one count of driving while impaired.
Bedore was sentenced to a year-long driving prohibition, with violation subject to prosecution, and will be paying off a total $1,300 in fines for the next six months.
Local pickleball winner enjoyed 55+ games
The Senior Fitness 55+ Provincial Games in Swift Current included a number of local winners.
Mailyn Janette Lucas Leyeza and Grace Modesto won gold in Ladies 55-59 pickleball doubles.
It was a partnership that started in another sport.
'Queen of Canada' confirmed arrested in RCMP Richmound raid
An early morning raid of the former Richmound School resulted in the arrest of the self-proclaimed 'Queen of Canada' Romana Didulo.
Saskatchewan RCMP confirmed 16 individuals, including Didulo, were arrested during the execution of a search warrant at the former school.
Construction obstruction on Trans-Canada Highway slowing travel
Road work is taking place in both directions on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Stretching from Highway 21 to Highway 614, crews are operating in both the east and westbound lanes.
Reduced speeds are in effect, requiring drivers to slow to 60 kilometres per hour.
This work is expected to be finished by 5 p.m.

SWAC sees growing athletic participation in schools
The school year may have just started yesterday, but SWAC athletics are already in full swing.
"It's always exciting," said SWAC Athletic Coordinator Valerie Gordon. "It's the start of a new year. We've had some outstanding results in our past year, and the coaches and the kids are raring to go. I always look forward to the excitement of the start of a new sports season."
Participation levels are up substantially throughout the Chinook School Division.
Frost can lead to nitrate toxicity in livestock
As we approach fall, there becomes a higher risk of frost at night. Frost is one of the disruptions to normal plant growth that can cause a buildup of nitrates in forages and cause nitrate toxicity in livestock. Other disruptions that can cause nitrate buildup can include hail, spray drift, or drought.
Traffic disruptions impacting Swift Current
The City of Swift Current is warning residents about traffic delays in Swift Current.
Throughout the day, sewer jetting work in the commercial district on the northwest side of Swift Current may cause disruptions to local traffic.
People are advised to use caution and to accommodate any workers operating in the area.
City provides update on Aquatic Facility work
The Aquatic Centre repairs are progressing well, according to an update from the City of Swift Current.
The facility was closed early this year in May to allow for extensive shoring work, electrical upgrades, and upgrades to the plumbing system. The work was budgeted at $2.1 million.
Melissa Shaw, acting CAO for the City of Swift Current, was able to report that the work is currently only at $1.5 million.

Alberta is marking 75 years of rat-free status.
An aggressive control program had made it the largest inhabited area in the world that is free of true rats.
There is no resident population of rats, and the rodents are not allowed to establish themselves.
