Broncos open training camp with rookies today
It's a new era in the Canadian Hockey League, and with that comes a new approach to training camp for the Swift Current Broncos.
Now that loss of NCAA eligibility is no longer an impediment for players interested in major junior hockey, Broncos GM Chad Leslie brought in a larger crop of rookies and free agents at camp.
Swimming not advised at Clearwater Lake main beach
You're advised not to swim at Clearwater Lake.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority has put up a warning at the lake that there are high levels of harmful bacteria present in the water.
It says they may pose a risk to your health.
The advisory says the water is not suitable for swimming.
The Clearwater Lake park office noted to Swift Current Online that they were told the levels were only an issue at the main beach rather than the whole lake.
Shaunavon restoration project looking for tax break
A southwest restoration project is looking for additional support from the municipal government.
The Shaunavon Grand Hotel, owned by Kent Karemaker, has been under renovation for the past two years. He will soon be presenting a petition to Shaunavon's town council encouraging them to grant a heritage-based tax exemption.
The Suitcase Project on display now at the Swift Current Museum
The Swift Current Museum is currently exhibiting The Suitcase Project in its temporary exhibit space.
The display is a statement on the impact felt by Japanese Canadians and Americans who, during WWII, were placed in internment camps. The display features those individuals' descendants, being fourth and fifth generation Japanese Canadians and Americans. They were asked by the project's lead, Kayla Isomura, to pick what they would pack if forced to immediately leave their homes.
City revving up the saws for tree trimmings
The City is getting ready to trim elm trees once the seasonal ban is lifted.
Residents in Swift Current will be able to contact the City of Swift Current for tree trimming for any branches that are near powerlines or other infrastructure.
Michael Newell, parks manager for the City of Swift Current, encourages people to contact the City instead of taking any risks themselves.
"It's definitely a better idea to give Light and Power a call and get their expert opinion on what to do when you're pruning around electrical lines," said Newell.
Gull Lake being impacted by highway work
Gull Lake and area residents are being given a heads-up for some Highway 37 road work.
Traffic will have to slow down and obey signage in the area. A pilot vehicle will be in use to guide drivers around the work.
The work itself is taking place from Gull Lake to Highway 332. The expected time for it to wrap up is 5 p.m.
Watermain repairs underway in Swift Current
The City of Swift Current is advising the public of work taking place on Sixth Avenue Northwest.
A watermain is being repaired, located between Cheadle Street West and North Railway Street West.
That particular segment of the street will be closed to the public until the work is completed.
The City did not state if there would be an impact on water services in the area.
Highway work at Blumenhof
More road construction before the season ends for Highway 343.
From Highway 4 to Third Street South in Blumenhof, crews will be working to finish a project before 5 p.m.
Reduced speeds are in effect for this work, and crew members will be operating in the area.
Motorists are asked to slow down and watch for anyone working.

Saskatchewan offers Crown Grazing Lease Rental Reduction Program
The province is once again giving livestock producers on crown land the opportunity to apply for the Crown Grazing Lease Rental Reduction Program.
Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison says, given the dry conditions throughout most of the grazing season, they are once again offering the program for producers.
"Crown grazing land lessees who have reduced the number of animals grazing on the land are eligible to apply (by the October 31st deadline) for a rent reduction for the 2025 grazing season.To be eligible, the lessee must reduce their stocking rate by 20 per cent."
Road work near Cadillac
Travellers heading down Highway 4 are being warned about ongoing work.
Road work is currently taking place near Cadillac on Highway 13 from Highway 4 to Highway 37. he road is being limited to one lane, with a pilot vehicle guiding motorists around the work.
Reduced speeds are in place.
