The Canadian Country Showcase, hosted by Courtney Fielder, airs every weekend on Saturdays at 12 PM and Sundays at 4 PM. Courtney engages in conversations with emerging country music artists and the established stars we’ve come to love, celebrating their milestones and new releases. Local artists to be featured in the AGSC's latest exhibition

The Art Gallery of Swift Current will soon be opening up a unique new exhibition, the Members' Snow & Sale. 

The Snow & Sale will sell and showcase artworks by local artists who are members of the Art Gallery from November 22 to January 4.

Luke Maddaford, curator of exhibitions and programming at the Art Gallery of Swift Current, highlighted that the Art Gallery doesn't normally have items on display for sale so this is a unique opportunity.

Postal workers delivering a message with pickets in Swift Current

Swift Current's postal workers are picketing up and down Central Avenue North today. 

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers is planning to strike five days a week in downtown Swift Current until an agreement is reached with Canada Post. 

Currently, the Crown Corporation is offering 11.5 per cent over the next five years. CUPW isn't willing to resume regular working habits until they see an offer of at least 24 per cent over four years.

Haunted Town raises over $28,000 to be donated

The Haunted Town of Lil - Sur - Mer held their annual wind up and cheque presentations this past weekend where they announced raising over $28,000 this year. 

For the past eight years the Haunted Town has donated its earnings to local charities and non-profits, this year 10 charities received a significant donation.

Andy Keys, president of the Haunted Town of Lil - Sur - Mer, was thrilled to see so much engagement from the community and noted that one of the charities that received a donation was a non-profit from Leader that travels to El Salvador to build houses. 

Parliament on the road to an unprecedented confidence crisis, but there are off-ramps

If no political party is willing to say uncle, the drawn-out stalemate in the House of Commons is heading for an unprecedented situation that could amount to a tacit lack of confidence in the government, without anyone in Parliament casting a vote. 

The Conservatives and Bloc Québécois have already announced plans to try to bring down the government and trigger an election with a non-confidence motion at the next opportunity. But there's no telling when that opportunity will come, because the House has been gridlocked in a filibuster for more than a month.

Trudeau says he could have acted faster on immigration changes, blames 'bad actors'

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government could have acted faster on reining in immigration programs, after blaming "bad actors" for gaming the system.

Trudeau released a nearly seven-minute video on YouTube Sunday talking about the recent reduction in permanent residents being admitted to Canada and changes to the temporary foreign worker program. 

Over the next two years, the permanent residency stream is being reduced by about 20 per cent to 365,000 in 2027.

Postal strike substantially slows services

Southwest residents are facing concerns following the postal strike that went into effect this past Friday.

The implications of the postal strike could have a significant impact on the economy, affecting consumers, business owners, investors, and more.

Karla Wiens, chief executive officer for the Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce, noted that the majority of stores operate a website or online store that will be affected.

Cypress Hills to shut down hot tub & sauna this year

Southwest residents and visitors of Cypress Hills are advised that the park will be closing their hot tub and sauna for the winter.

Royce Pettyjohn, park manager for Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, noted that after much consideration, the hot tub and sauna will be closed for the season to focus more on other services.

Write Out Loud gets ready for Yes, Miss Thompson

This month's Write Out Loud will cover topics of immigration, economic hardship, finding success as a woman, and how one decision can invite lifetimes of hardship. 

The story Yes, Miss Thompson, follows the details of Marjorie Thompson. A woman who immigrated to Canada as a child, and grew to become a successful teacher and principal in the 1930's. Based on the real-life story of the author, Amy Boyes, great-grandmother, it delves into how multiple generations were affected by Thompson's choice to marry an alcoholic, and the great stressors placed upon her life. 

Country 94.1 celebrates its first dosey doe around the sun

Saturday night saw over 100 people boot, scoot, and boogie at Country 94.1's first birthday party.

The lower level of the Legion in Swift Current was packed, where country music lovers came along for the ride as morning show host Chris Martens and the staff from Golden West Broadcasting hosted games, gave away prizes, and handed out cold hard cash.

The biggest prize of the night was the $941 prize awarded to Cassie Krause, who managed to find the correct snake in her boot.
