Call out for applications: Over $70K in new grants fuel rural growth and education

Manitoba Ag Days continues to invest in rural communities and agriculture education through their Ag Days Gives Back program. And applications are now open for this next intake of granting applications.

At the 2025 show this past January, $55,000 in funds were awarded in the form of 16 community grants, 3 post-secondary scholarships and support for Ag in the Classroom Manitoba.

Through the sale of 50/50 tickets at the January 2025 Ag Days show, $71,000 has been allocated for the next round of granting.

Métis leaders strike note of optimism after meeting with Carney on major projects

Métis leaders left a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday saying they're confident they will be included in talks about major projects Ottawa hopes to use to bolster the economy in the face of a trade war with the United States.

"When things really matter, Métis governments come together and we get the work done," said Métis Nation of Ontario president Margaret Froh.

Parkland Family Medicine Residency Unit welcomes new group

Canada Day marks notable achievements across the country and province. And this year, six new residents were proud to begin their two-year training period July 1 with the Parkland Family Medicine Residency Unit based in Dauphin.  

This new crop of residents includes Jennifer Setlack, Sumaya Tasneem, Nikita Gonnade, Adesola Alade, Sheryl Diana Moralde, and Abieyuwa Agada. They will graduate in June 2027. 

Time to move forward on national agency to fight forest fires, chiefs say

The Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs says it's time for Ottawa to stop studying the idea of a national forest fire co-ordination agency and take action.

The organization's president wants the federal government to take inspiration from the U.S. Fire Administration to establish a similar office in Canada.

The U.S. office is part of Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, but Ken McMullen says a Canadian version could be simpler and less costly.

Fire Bulletin #60 - Fire danger remains high

The Manitoba Wildfire Service advises that as fire danger remains high to very high across much of the province today, the provincial state of emergency declared on July 10 has been extended until Aug. 22. Some areas may see brief relief from wildfire activity due to rain, but storm activity also brings the risk of more lightning starts.

Province extends State of Emergency due to ongoing wildfires

Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s Emergency Management Organization is advising that provincewide state of emergency under the Emergency Measures Act will be extended to Aug. 22 due to ongoing wildfires across Manitoba.

The state of emergency was declared on July 10 and remained in effect for 30 days. This extension will keep the state of emergency in place until Aug. 22.

Manitoba extends state of emergency as wildfires continue to burn

Manitoba has extended its provincewide state of emergency until Aug. 22 as wildfires continue to burn across the province.

The state of emergency, declared under the Emergency Measures Act, was reinstated on July 10 for a 30-day period. It had previously been in place from May 28 to June 23 before being lifted when fire activity subsided.

Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s Emergency Management Organization said Thursday that the extension is necessary due to the ongoing wildfire situation.

Maria Mary Wiebe, 103, of Grunthal formerly of Niverville, passed away Monday, August 4th at Menno Home. She is survived by 2 brothers, many nieces and nephews and friends. 
The funeral service for Maria Mary Wiebe will be held Monday, August 11th at 11am at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with burial at Hespeler Cemetery, Nivervile. 
Viewing will be at the chapel prior to the service.
