Killarney Shines at Tribute to Tourism Awards with double win for Event and Partnership Excellence
At this past week's Tribute to Tourism Awards at the Backyard on Aberdeen in Brandon, Killarney took home two significant wins; Event of the Year over $10K budget, and the Partnership Award.
The annual event is hosted by Tourism Westman and shines a light on the significant events and the volunteers that facilitate them in our Westman communities.

Fred Wanke, 90, of Menisino passed away Sunday, January 26th at Vita Personal Care Home. He is survived by his wife Margit, 5 sons, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and their families. He was predeceased by 1 son, 1 brother, and 2 brothers-in-law.
A memorial service for Fred Wanke will be held Saturday, June 21st at 11am at Birchwood Funeral Chapel.

The federal public service shed almost 10,000 people last year, with the Canada Revenue Agency and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada losing the most employees.
The last time the public service contracted was in 2015, when the number of people employed dropped just slightly from 257,138 to 257,034.

It's called "Edge of the Earth", and was a different musical journey and creative experience for the two-time Juno award winner.
His first album "Watin" focused on sharing the stories of his late grandfather, his second was "Here and Now" and he describes it as a break-up album.

"So, we had an early start. A lot of people seeded their serials and corn nice and early, and then we had that soggy May long weekend, which was perfect because, you know, when it decided to rain it sure rained and we ended up with 2 1/2 to 3 inches in the area, which laid kind of a really nice foundation for seeding our shallow and expensive crops like canola for example," explains Chalmers.
