Portage la Prairie’s Kinley Cleaver is trading local courts for the national stage.
The 12-year-old Grade 7 student jets off to Langley, BC, this July 25-28, representing Winnipeg’s Attack Academy Basketball at the highly anticipated national championships. Kinley, balancing basketball with fastball, confirms hoops hold her heart as she prepares for her biggest competition yet.
"I'm definitely feeling nervous," Kinley admits candidly about the upcoming nationals. "But I'll have my team and my coaches there to support everybody, and I hope we do good."
Deputy Mayor stresses need for balance as Steinbach reviews grant requests

On June 5, 2025, about 30 high school students from across the Sun West School Division got a firsthand look at career opportunities in agriculture beyond the traditional farm with Think Ag 2025, a dynamic event hosted by Sun West in partnership with the Regina District Industry and Education Council.

Update: Severe weather watch issued for Airdrie; neighbouring counties under a warning
Environment Canada has lifted a series of severe thunderstorm watches that were in place for Airdrie, Crossfield and several parts of southern Alberta Saturday.
The weather agency had warned that thunderstorms forming along the eastern slopes of the Rockies could track southeast through the evening, with the potential to bring damaging winds, torrential rainfall and hail up to the size of a loonie.
“The risk of severe thunderstorms will diminish this evening,” Environment Canada said in a 2:24 p.m. update.
RCMP arrest 61-year-old man for possession for the purpose of trafficking
RCMP arrested a man as part of a check to ensure he was following court-ordered release order conditions at a residence in Oxbow earlier this week.
On June 25, Carnduff RCMP conducted a check of a male’s residence, as was permitted as part of his conditions.
During the search, officers located and seized approximately 26 grams of methamphetamine, 22 pharmaceutical-style pills, about 10 grams of a white powder sent for further testing, and trafficking paraphernalia.
