SaskPower files appeal to fines related to deaths of two Weyburn workers
One month ago, SaskPower was fined $840 000 regarding the death of Weyburn workers in October of 2020. The two 19-year journeypersons, Scott Bill and Cole Crooks, fell to their deaths while working in the city due to a faulty bucket truck and failure to enforce the use of safety harnesses. SaskPower was found guilty of three charges related to workplace safety violations.
SaskPower has now filed an appeal to the charges confirmed in a statement sent by the corporation.
CRA implements fines for failure to file taxes online

Former Moose Jaw Wakamow MLA Greg Lawrence pleaded guilty to assault at Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Wednesday and was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge.
As part of a joint submission between Lawrence’s lawyer Merv Nidesh and Provincial Crown Prosecutor Rob Parker, Lawrence vacated his earlier not guilty plea for charages of assault and assault by choking. The assault by choking charge was withdrawn by the prosecution.
Hours adjusted at 35 Canadian border crossings, including Saskatchewan ports
As of 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 6, 2025, the hours of operation at 35 land ports of entry across Canada will be adjusted.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced the changes Monday, calling them a collaborative effort with the United States to enhance security for both countries. The CBSA said the adjustments would also help allocate resources more efficiently by concentrating officers at busier ports of entry. This is expected to improve the processing of travellers and goods while bolstering enforcement activities.

At Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI), English teacher Joe Wermie has created a space where students can explore their love for writing outside of the classroom's formal structure. The PCI Writers Club, which Wermie founded, currently has 11 members ranging from Grade 9 - 11 and has become an outlet for students who may not fit into more traditional groups like sports teams. Simplot recognizes outstanding potato growers at annual awards banquet
The fourth annual Simplot Potato Grower Awards Banquet took place Thursday night and Simplot agronomy manager Scott Graham says it acknowledges and shows appreciation to their growers on an annual basis and to just have a fun evening with everybody out. About 200 people showed up and 44 farms were represented.
