Mutual aid needed for large grass fire near Austin

A fast-moving grass fire south of the Trans-Canada Highway near Road 72W kept fire crews from Austin and Carberry busy from Saturday afternoon into the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to a social media post by the Austin Fire Department, the call came in around 3 p.m. on Saturday. Smoke was already visible while crews were en route to the scene.

Firefighters arrived to find an open pasture surrounded by brush burning out of control.

Alberta’s new tax cut hits paycheques in July

Airdronians can expect to see the Government of Alberta's promised tax cut on their paycheque starting in July.

In March, the Alberta government introduced legislation to create a new eight percent personal income tax bracket on earnings up to $60,000, fulfilling a key promise from Budget 2025.

The change is expected to save individual taxpayers up to $750 per year, and up to $1,500 annually for two-income families.

Weyburn Canoe & Kayak Club gets an influx of board members, new programs coming

The Weyburn Canoe and Kayak Club saw an influx of new board members since putting out a call in May for more help. Lindsay Sterling said she didn't want to see the club go under, so she hopped on board.

"I wanted to be there to support it and give back to the community because it's done so much for me and my kids," she shared. "My kids love being out on the water. I've been canoeing and kayaking since I was 17 years old, and I taught my kids and they just love it."

RCMP Musical Ride event to benefit Airdrie charity

Stephen’s Backpacks Society will receive all proceeds from ticket sales when the RCMP Musical Ride performs Aug. 9 in Rocky View County.

“We are very excited to be chosen to receive all proceeds from ticket sales Aug 9th 2025,” the Airdrie-based charity stated in a June 25 social media post. “What a great family event and at the same time supporting children in need!!”

Planning fireworks in Airdrie this Canada Day? Know what’s allowed — and what’s not

Canada Day falls on Tuesday, and while Airdrie will mark the holiday with a 20-minute professional fireworks display at Chinook Winds Regional Park, private fireworks remain illegal within city limits.

Possession, sale or use of consumer fireworks — classified as low-hazard recreational fireworks (F.1) — is prohibited under Emergency Services Bylaw B-18/2018, posted on the City of Airdrie website.

Neighbouring towns join Airdrie with full slate of Canada Day events

While Airdrie gears up for a citywide celebration, nearby towns including Carstairs, Didsbury, and Olds are also hosting packed slates of parades, vendors, fireworks, and free food on July 1.

Carstairs Memorial Park will host a full Canada Day celebration from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Town of Carstairs festivities will include:

13th Avenue NW to close for concrete work this week

Traffic on the stretch of 13th Avenue NW between Grace and Montgomery Street will result in the alternating closure of four intersections and impact transit routes for much of July.

From Wednesday, July 2 to July 8, the Montgomery, Albert, and Carleton Street intersections along 13th Avenue will be closed, with only local, southbound traffic being permitted through the Grace Street intersection.

Chinook’s Edge wraps up school year with key updates

In their last trustee meeting for the school year, the Chinook's Edge School Division Board of Trustees made a number of decisions and wished the graduating class the best of luck last week.

The Chinook’s Edge Board of Trustees wishes to extend its congratulations to the graduating class of 2025. The Board echoed the comments of Superintendent Ryan Sawula, given in his Superintendent’s report at the meeting explained the school division.

Arnolds named Notoriously Good Neighbours for June

The City of Moose Jaw and the Moose Jaw and District Chamber of Commerce have named Beverly and Yogi Arnold as the Notoriously Good Neighbours for June. 

The Arnolds were nominated by Kalie Seidlitz for regularly helping others in the neighbourhood, whether it’s caring for pets or taking out garbage and recycling bins. 

Seidlitz, who said she has no immediate family in Moose Jaw, is especially grateful for the couple’s kindness.
