‘Project Shine’ raises over $10,400 for Senior Citizens’ Association

Moose Jaw Co-op and SaskWater presented a cheque for $10,437.62 to the Moose Jaw and District Senior Citizens’ Association as a result of this year’s Project Shine. 

Throughout the month of May, customers at the Co-op food store, agro centre and all Co-op gas locations were asked for a $2 donation at the till. The Co-op and SaskWater each matched donations up to $2,500. 

Biggar RCMP report busy week in the RM of Eagle Creek

A local rural municipality saw the most notable calls looking inside the June 16 Biggar RCMP report. Of 27 total occurrences, the RM of Eagle Creek seemed to steal the show according to local Staff Sgt. Dereck Crozier.

"Our volunteer First Responders were kept busy with a single vehicle rollover on Hwy 376 through the area, when a 15-year-old from Asquith practicing driving with her mother panicked at the wheel and ended up in the ditch." shared Crozier to start the report.

The Guy Weadick Pro Rodeo is kicking off this weekend, with some new events

The Guy Weadick Pro Rodeo is returning this weekend.

According to the High River Ag Society Events Coordinator, Liz Ellwood, they have several new events as part of the rodeo this year.

"I think the Tough Enough to Wear Pink on Saturday is going to be awesome," Ellwood explains. "So, raising those funds for the High River Community Cancer Center is going to be a lot of fun. And then, on the Sunday, we are having our inaugural Family Day."

ECS grads celebrated and receive well wishes at ceremony event

The Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) held its graduation ceremony over the weekend, celebrating the accomplishments of the Grade 12 students who are moving on to the next stage of their lives. That included a cap-and-gown ceremony at Affinity Place, along with a community parade.

James Jones, the principal of the ECS, says the event went well with a bit of extra help included.

Walleye Classic marks 35 years with sunshine, strong catches, and tight competition

The 35th annual Riverhurst Walleye Classic brought big fish and even bigger community spirit to Lake Diefenbaker over Father’s Day weekend, with 94 teams competing and nearly 900 walleye caught and released across two days.

The team of Michael Faris and Ryder Rutko took top honours this year, weighing in 38.38 pounds of walleye to secure the $6,000 grand prize. They edged out second-place finishers Derek and Forrest Prokopiw (33.93 pounds) and third-place team David Deutscher and Rob Furutani (33.81 pounds), who earned $3,500 and $2,000 respectively.

RCMP sees drastic increase in fraud reports

Over the past 10 years, Saskatchewan RCMP have seen an 81 per cent in reports of fraud in the province.

Between 2014 and 2024, statistics compiled by RCMP crime analysts show a 200 per cent increase in reports of fraud greater than $5,000 and a 335 per cent increase in fraud related to theft, forgery, and the misuse of credit cards.

Even with theft under $5,000, the RCMP have seen a jump in reports from 953 in 2014 to 2,207 in 2024.

The Town of Okotoks is celebrating National Indigenous Peoples History Month with a pipe ceremony

The Town of Okotoks is hosting a pipe ceremony as part of National Indigenous Peoples Day this weekend.

This is the fourth year they are hosting this ceremony, which will take place at the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Residential Schools Survivors Memorial site behind Bow Valley College in Okotoks.

According to the Indigenous Relations Advisor for the Town of Okotoks, Desmond Jackson, this pipe ceremony will honour and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples' History Month.

Early morning road closure crops up in Swift Current

The City of Swift Current is keen to inform folks of a necessary street closure coming up on Thursday morning. 

A section of Sixth Avenue North East, located between Chaplin Street East and Herbert Street East,
