RCMP confirm pipe bomb found in Lloydminster backyard; investigation ongoing
Nearly a week after a pipe bomb was found and safely dismantled in a Lloydminster backyard, RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
The device was discovered on the morning of June 12 in the backyard of a home on 41st Street near 49th Avenue. Police quickly secured the area and called in the Alberta RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit, which confirmed it was a functioning pipe bomb and rendered it safe.

The Town of Okotoks is hosting a pipe ceremony as part of National Indigenous Peoples Day this weekend.
This is the fourth year they are hosting this ceremony, which will take place at the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Residential Schools Survivors Memorial site behind Bow Valley College in Okotoks.
According to the Indigenous Relations Advisor for the Town of Okotoks, Desmond Jackson, this pipe ceremony will honour and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples' History Month.
Saskatchewan credit union members vote in favour of $15 billion merger
The merger between Conexus, Cornerstone and Synergy credit unions has been approved following a member voting period earlier this month.
The resolution needed a 75 per cent approval rating from members in each credit union to pass, and it was announced this morning that 87.5 per cent of Conexus members voted in favour of the merger, with a further 86.5 per cent from Cornerstone and 88.7 per cent from Synergy.
Early morning road closure crops up in Swift Current

Storm provides decent rainfall totals to portion of southwest
Parts of the southwest benefited with considerable rainfall totals on Tuesday night from a thunderstorm, while other areas went dry.
Environment and Climate Change Canada said late Wednesday morning that they hadn't received any reports of severe weather in the southwest.
"Looking at radar, there is probably a decent chance there was some hail with it," said Crawford Luke, a meteorologist with Environment Canada. "It's possible there was some hail that fell, but it might have just fallen in places where people were not there to see it or observe it."

Zebra stripes and big ideas: Airdrie names new Mayor for a Day
Airdrie city council welcomed Grade 6 student Aiden S. to the chamber on Tuesday as the successful applicant of the city’s 2025 Mayor for a Day Challenge.
His idea—to paint five-metre zebra stripes near school crosswalks to clearly mark no-parking zones—was selected from 22 submissions across eight schools. Youth Engagement Liaison Jessica Dudek said the idea aims to improve crosswalk safety and driver awareness by educating drivers and creating more space around busy areas, especially during pick-up and drop-off times.

Even though the gate on Highway 40 is still closed to vehicles, there are still many trails you can hike.
Normally, the gate is opened on June 15 every year, but due to the G7 Summit near Kananaskis Village, it remains closed until June 21.
A couple of popular hiking destinations for mid-level skilled hikers include Mount Burke and Raspberry Ridge.
