Leaders pitch savings bonds, GST-free Canadian cars to bolster economy
The New Democrats and Conservatives both pitched ideas on the federal election trail Thursday to make Canada and its workers more resilient in the face of tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh proposed tax-free savings bonds, while Pierre Poilievre said a Conservative government would remove the federal sales tax from Canadian-made vehicles.
Liberal Leader Mark Carney, in his role as prime minister, met virtually Thursday with Canada's premiers to discuss the U.S. tariffs as Canadian automakers started to feel the effects.

CCGA's Advance Payments Program issues $310 million in cash advances first day
Earlier this week, the Canadian Canola Growers Association (CCGA) issued their first cash advances with the 2025 Advance Payments Program for the upcoming growing year. More than 1750 producers across Western Canada received more than $310 million to finance their operations. Semi-truck involved in fatal hit-and-run found in Rocky View County
Calgary police have charged a man following a hit-and-run collision that killed a 57-year-old woman.
On Tuesday night, the woman was struck by a semi-truck and trailer combination on the bridge deck of Nose Hill Drive N.W., which fled the scene.
A maintenance vehicle stopped and provided first aid to the woman.
Just after, a black RAM truck then hit a post and cable barrier before striking the rear of the maintenance truck.
Gas price drop expected to save Canadians hundreds a year
Strathmore residents have seen considerable savings at the pumps over the past few days.
On Apr. 1, the carbon tax was paused for consumers, leading to an 18 per cent price drop across town.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis with GasBuddy, discussed the impact that the consumer carbon tax had on local gas prices.
Beiseker's water system depressurization triggers boil water advisory
A boil water advisory has been issued for the Village of Beiseker.
"The advisory is required due to depressurization of the water system during repair work," said an Alberta Health Services (AHS) release.
AHS staff are advising residents and businesses to bring water to a rolling boil for one minute before drinking.
This includes water for brushing teeth, cleaning raw foods, preparing infant formula or juices, and making ice.
Strathmore and Chestermere commuters should be aware of these photo radar locations
For Strathmore and Chestermere residents who commute into Calgary for work, photo radar locations have been released.
According to Calgary police, radar will be set up in the communities of Albert Park/Radisson Heights, Bridlewood, Capitol Hill, Collingwood, Dover, Forest Lawn, Highland Park, Hillhurst, Marlborough, Panorama, Rundle, Skyview Ranch, Sunalta, Taradale, Temple, Varsity and Whitehorn.
Police said in a release that photo radar will also be in place at construction zones when crews are working.
Here's who is running in Bow River in this federal election
It’s day 13 of the federal election campaign, and all the major parties have officially announced their candidates for the Bow River riding.
The Conservative Party of Canada is running Vulcan County farmer David Bexte.
Bexte won the Conservative nomination earlier this year, defeating three other candidates in the race.
This is not Bexte’s first time running for office. He previously sought a seat on Vulcan County Council but lost.
The New Democratic Party is running Calgary construction worker Louisa Gwin.
Strathmore asks residents to prepare for heavy item garbage pickup
With many Strathmore residents starting their spring cleaning, the town is reminding people to prepare for Heavy Item Garbage (HIG) pickup.
According to the town, the next HIG pickup is between Apr. 14 to 18.
"The program is an opportunity for residents to place out waste items that aren't suitable for your black cart for collection," wrote the town. "Please note that only residents who pay a garbage fee on their town bill are eligible for HIG."
Gleichen RCMP find missing girl
Gleichen RCMP have found a missing girl.
Police say 13-year-old Autumn Raweater was last seen in Siksika Nation on March 26.
On Thursday, April 3, officers announced the teenager had been located.
