Province to announce transportation infrastructure funding near Brooks

Alberta government officials will make a funding announcement for transportation infrastructure Tuesday morning.

According to the province, the news will take place at the entrance to the JBS plant near Brooks.

Premier Danielle Smith, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors Devin Dreeshen, County of Newell Reeve Arno Doerksen, Brooks Deputy Mayor Joel Goodnough, and JBS Foods Canada President Celio Fritche will be in attendance.

Carney promises home building program, Poilievre pitches national energy corridor

Liberal Leader Mark Carney promised Monday to get the federal government back into the business of home building, while Pierre Poilievre's Conservatives pitched a national energy corridor to fast-track approval of key infrastructure.

The New Democrats rolled out their own national project — a promise to help retrofit 3.3 million homes and pay for it by cutting supports for big oil and gas companies. 

Manitoba's Tyler Fulton new President of CCA

Manitoba farmer Tyler Fulton is the new President of the Canadian Cattle Association. The Birtle area cattle producer moved into the role during the organization's recent annual meeting in Ottawa.

"Well, I'm excited," shared Fulton. "I'm a little tentative just given the political environment and the geopolitical environment and the reliance on trade. Overall, I feel well prepared, well supported, and so in that sense I'm excited to take on the challenge, and do my best to just represent cattle producers across the country with all the sectors covered off."

When are students in Rocky View Schools off for spring break?

Students from Rocky View Schools will return to school on Tuesday.

According to the organization, students had Monday off for Professional Learning Day.

The division operates schools close to Strathmore, including Langdon, Chestermere, and Indus.

April 17 is the last day of classes before spring break.

Students will be off until April 28.

U11 AA Wheatland Hawks defeated at provincial tournament

The U11 AA Wheatland Hawks came home empty-handed following the Hockey Alberta Provincial Championship over the weekend.

The tournament took place at the Strathmore Family Centre and featured eight teams from across the province.

On Thursday, Mar. 27, the Hawks played their first game against the Red Deer Chiefs. The Hawks were defeated 11-1. 

New electoral map reshapes Bow River riding in 2025 federal election

The federal election campaign is entering its second week.

As candidates put up signs, residents may be wondering where they can vote this time around.

Canada has a new electoral map for the 2025 election. Every ten years, an independent commission redraws Canada's districts to make sure each riding has close to 100,000 people.

Canada will add more seats to its next Parliament, increasing from 338 seats to 343.

In the Bow River riding, a few changes have been made.

Real Canadian Wrestling (RCW) made a stop at the Strathmore Ag Grounds over the weekend.

The event took place on Friday, Mar. 28, as part of the league's March Madness Tour.

There were six matches during the event featuring a variety of wrestlers, including Mo Jabari, Matt Hart, Farmer Jake, Raj Singh, Aussie Legend, and more.

Former WWE superstar Eugene also made an appearance, teaming up with Dan Mayhem to defeat Othias Jones and Rhino Reynolds.
