When can you see the U11 Wheatland Hawks in provincials this weekend?

The U11 AA Wheatland Hawks hockey team is lacing up their skates for the provincial championship.

There are eight teams taking part in the tournament, with some travelling as far as Leduc, Strathcona, and Lethbridge. All of the games take place at the Strathmore Family Centre Arena, which started on Thursday, March 27.

Alberta Health Services claims fired CEO kept confidential emails, seeking injunction

Alberta's health authority is claiming its fired former executive breached her employment agreement by holding on to confidential emails with information pertaining to allegations in a high-profile court case.

A new affidavit filed Wednesday by Alberta Health Services says the agency is looking to amend its statement of defence in light of the emails, which the agency says it only became aware of last week. 

Drumheller man launches petition to save World's Largest Dinosaur

A Drumheller man has started a petition in an effort to save the World's Largest Dinosaur.

Resident AJ Frey learned the iconic attraction will be closed by 2029 and said he doesn't want Tyra's story to end.

"The main reason I started the petition is because I was shocked by the announcement, said Frey.

"We just want to know why there was no discussion about what's happening with this town landmark."

Fire crews use 150,000 gallons of water to extinguish blaze near Nightingale

Fire crews from across Wheatland County worked together to put out a rural grass and bale fire near Nightingale.

"The Rockyford Fire Department would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the Dalum, Rosebud, Standard and Wheatland West fire departments for their assistance on Monday and Tuesday of this week," said the Village of Rockyford.

"As well, to the numerous farmers that supplied much needed equipment and labour."

Strathmore Ag Grounds to host March Carnage with former WWE wrestler Eugene

Wrestling fans are invited to pack the Strathmore Ag Grounds on Friday night.

Real Canadian Wrestling's March Carnage event will feature several wrestlers including former WWE superstar Eugene.

One of the top matches will be Ginha vs. Steve Wilde in a no-disqualification grudge match.

The last time the company was in Strathmore was Feb. 7.

Doors will open at the Ag Pavilion at 6 p.m.

Cattle from Saskatchewan farm found with Bovine TB

Last month, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency or CFIA officially declared a herd of cattle infected with bovine tuberculosis or bovine TB. An investigation spanning back six years has taken place, tracking the movements of the herd to limit the spread of bovine TB. Prime Minister Mark Carney hosting a meeting with Canada's premiers today as election campaign continues

Gleichen RCMP seek help to find missing 13-year-old girl

Gleichen RCMP are asking for the public's help finding a missing 13-year-old girl.

Autumn Raweater was last seen on Wednesday, Mar. 26, in Siksika Nation. Police say they are concerned for her well-being.

Raweater is described as:

  • Five feet, three inches tall
  • Black hair and brown eyes
  • Medium complexion

She was last seen wearing black hoodie and blue jeans.

Drumheller Mayor reacts to closure of World's Largest Dinosaur in 2029

The Town of Drumheller will hold a special council meeting to discuss the closure of Tyra, the World's Largest Dinosaur.

Council will meet Thursday afternoon.

"The Chamber has notified the town that its lease on the building will conclude in December 2029 and has indicated it will not seek renewal," said a release from the town.

"Under the lease agreement, the Chamber is the sole owner of the World's Largest Dinosaur and is responsible for its construction, maintenance, operations, and any future decisions regarding its decommissioning."

Alberta putting $19M toward municipal flood and drought prevention

Alberta's government is putting $19 million toward municipal flood and drought prevention projects as part of its new budget.

Environment Minister Rebecca Schulz says eight municipalities as well as two Indigenous communities are to receive the grant funding.

She says the money will help build a new berm along the Bow River at Siksika First Nation and a retaining wall to protect the Slave Lake Airport.

Calgary is also to receive funding to improve a storm water ditch that connects the city to the nearby hamlet of Langdon.
