Chestermere meets all 12 directives in municipal inspection report

Chestermere has ticked off all 12 directives stemming from a municipal inspection report.

The directives were issued by Alberta Minister of Municipal Affairs Ric McIver, who signed off on the inspection in a letter dated March 12, 2025.

“We’ve had the opportunity to run into Minister McIver at a few events, and he has expressed to all of us on council how pleased he has been with the work of this council and this administration, including recently,” said Chestermere Mayor Shannon Dean.

Pancake house holds soft opening in Strathmore

Strathmore has a new breakfast joint.

On Wednesday, Mar. 26, Stacked Pancake & Breakfast House held its soft opening.

The business is located on Archie Klaiber Trail, near the Starbucks and Arby's.

The company announced the opening earlier this month. This is the seventh Stacked location in Alberta, with most of the franchises operating out of Calgary.

The restaurant also serves sandwiches, burgers, and salads on top of its extensive breakfast menu.

Stacked is one several new restaurants expected to be opening in Strathmore throughout 2025.

Louisa Gwin announces NDP Bow River candidacy

The federal election campaign is in full swing with party leaders crisscrossing the country asking for residents' votes.

The Bow River riding is no exception, and as of March 27, the riding currently has three candidates vying to be the next Member of Parliament, (MP) with farmer David Bexte running for the Conservative Party of Canada, construction worker Louisa Gwin for the New Democratic Party, and financial planner and accountant Tom Lipp for the Christian Heritage Party.

A Drumheller landmark is shutting down.

The World's Largest Dinosaur (WLD) will close by the end of the decade.

According to the Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce, the current lease term for the massive dino ends in December 2029. This also includes the gift shop and visitor information centre.

Alberta’s producers to open doors for local food and farming experiences

It's a chance for residents to meet their rural farmers.

Alberta Open Farm Days will take place from Aug. 16-17.

"Mark your calendars for Alberta Open Farm Days, where farms across the province open their doors for a weekend of learning, connection, and local food. Visitors can tour working farms, meet Alberta’s amazing producers, and enjoy farm-fresh experiences," said Wheatland County.

According to the Alberta government, more than 150 farms opened their doors to over 52,000 visitors in 2024.

Trump's auto tariffs derail Carney's federal election campaign plans

Liberal Leader Mark Carney is back in Ottawa today to deal with the fallout of new auto tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. 

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Carney said he was suspending his campaign plans for the day and would return to Ottawa to hold a meeting of the Canada-U.S. cabinet committee.

It's unclear when Carney will be back on the road to continue campaigning. 

Country superstar Shania Twain to lead 2025 Calgary Stampede Parade

Country legend Shania Twain will make her way to Calgary once again.

Twain was announced as the 2025 Calgary Stampede Parade Marshal on Wednesday, Mar. 26.

"A global superstar, celebrated songwriter and style icon, Twain is a five-time Grammy winner and one of music and fashion’s most renowned trailblazers," the Stampede said in a release.
