Private Members' Bill blames pandemics on animal agriculture says Ag Critic
Alberta MP and Conservative Agriculture Critic John Barlow has been receiving a number of emails from Canadians who are concerned about Private Members' Bill C-293, which now sits before the Senate.
He says while the primary objective of the bill is pandemic prevention and preparedness, it contains content and language that will adversely affect Canadian farmers and ranchers.

There was no clear winner in Saturday's British Columbia election, but the leader of the B.C. Conservatives says the province's political landscape has "changed forever," after his party pushed the incumbent New Democrats to the brink.
Neither party won enough seats to claim a majority, and vote counting was set to continue Sunday, with Premier David Eby's NDP in striking range of a minority government if he gets the co-operation of the Greens, who won two seats.

The Town of Strathmore is asking residents to fill out a survey on how they want to see recreation and culture services improve in the area.
"Whether it's about amenities you'd like to see, challenges you face, or what you'd love to see in Strathmore's future, this is your chance to join the conversation," wrote the Town on its Facebook page.
The town says residents can also expect postcards in the mail for the Rec and Culture Needs Assessment.
Strathmore RCMP celebrate 100 years in the community
It's been 100 years since police first settled in Strathmore.
On July 1, 1909, the Royal North West Mounted Police arrived in Strathmore as a precursor to the RCMP. The first member posted in town was Thomas Hill Irvine.
Irvine served for two years in Strathmore before being transferred to Gleichen. He was deployed to France in the First World War. The war ended one year into his deployment, and he returned to Canada and was promoted to inspector.
AFN votes on way forward after $47.8 billion child welfare reform deal is defeated
The executive team from the Assembly of First Nations will meet in the coming days to discuss how to proceed with new negotiations for a child welfare reform deal after chiefs voted against the government's proposed $47.8 billion agreement at a meeting in Calgary Thursday.
AFN National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak, who had helped negotiate the deal and pushed for it to be approved, was blunt in her assessment of the outcome in her closing remarks to the special chiefs assembly Friday.

Defence minister announces nearly $65 million in aid to Ukraine
Canada announced the details of a $64.8 million military aid package to Ukraine Friday as National Defence Minister Bill Blair attended a NATO defence ministers meeting in Brussels.
Ukraine's ongoing war with Russia was a key topic at the meeting, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the ministers during the meeting.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, chairing his first NATO defence ministers' meeting since taking the role earlier in October, said the alliance's members are on track to deliver almost $60 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.
Strathmore Spartans heading north for cross country provincials
The Strathmore Spartans cross country team made it into provincials.
The team finished second in their zone and will be heading to Grand Prairie this weekend for the competition.
"It's been a really great season. We've had a lot of kids come out," said head coach Ian Regnier. "There are no tryouts. If you want to come out and run, you come out and run."
According to Regnier, 17 runners will be packed into a school bus and sent seven hours north for the tournament.
Strathmore library saves local readers over $1 million
The Strathmore Municipal Library has given some statistics on how much local readers saved through renting books.
According to the library's Facebook page, $1,275,314 was saved between January and August. Director Rachel Dick Hughes said that this number does not account for digital resources or physical items such as musical instruments.
