Farmers frustrated as Grain Services Workers continue strike action
The ongoing strike at the Port of Vancouver is estimated to be costing Canada's grain industry $35 million a day in lost exports.
About 650 Grain Services Workers walked off the job Tuesday morning at the Port of Vancouver over contract issues with the Vancouver Terminal Elevators Association (VETA).
VETA represents six grain export terminals Viterra's Cascadia and Pacific Terminals, Richardson International Terminal, Cargill Limited Terminal, the G3 Vancouver Terminal and Alliance Grain Terminal which operate at the Port.

Origin Brewing is bringing a taste of Germany to Strathmore next week.
The local brewery will host its annual Oktoberfest celebration on October 4 at its Strathmore taproom.
"It's free entry. There's going to be food specials, we've got some entertainment, and it's always a fun party," said Kyle Geeraert, director at Origin Brewing. "We're hoping to see a few familiar faces and have a good time."

The team will face the Ponoka Stampeders at the Ponoka Culture & Recreation Complex on Saturday (Sept. 28).

CSIS says a former parliamentarian may have worked on behalf of a foreign government
A former parliamentarian is suspected of "having worked to influence parliamentary business" on behalf of an unnamed foreign government, Canada's spy service told a federal inquiry Friday.
The Canadian Security Intelligence Service also cited indications that an unspecified foreign government engaged in meddling to reduce the likelihood of a specific Liberal candidate of being elected federally.
Disability rights groups launch Charter challenge against MAID law
A coalition of disability rights organizations has launched a Charter challenge against a part of Canada's law on medical assistance in dying, calling it an "abandonment” of people with disabilities.
The group announced Thursday that it had filed a notice of application to challenge what's known as track two of the MAID law, which it argues has resulted in premature deaths.
Town of Strathmore releases '2023 by the numbers'
The Town of Strathmore has released some interesting numbers regarding several projects and programs throughout the town.
In a post made to the town's Facebook page on Wednesday (Sept. 25), the town released '2023 by the numbers', a short-form video posted exclusively to the town's Facebook story.
The post claims that 1,667 flowers were planted throughout the year by town employees.

Strathmore students tour community green house for Envirothon event
Strathmore High School held its first-ever Envirothon on Thursday (Sept. 26).
The event involved Grade 6 students from Strathmore and the surrounding area visiting the school's community greenhouse to learn more about environmental studies.

Strathmore teacher shaves head to support kids with cancer
Sacred Heart Academy held its annual Terry Fox Run on Thursday (Sept. 26) and before the event teacher Genevieve Volk shaved her head for a cause.
Hundreds of students were inside the gym of Holy Cross Collegiate to watch the shaving, while some of the top-earning kids for their Terry Fox fundraiser had the opportunity to cut Volk's ponytails off.
"I think it's what we're here to do. We're a catholic school, and we're here to give to other people," said Volk. "The students are all supportive and encouraging."
