Strathmore Flooring Concepts gets ready for relaunch day with community event

Strathmore Flooring Concepts is hosting a customer appreciation event and relaunch on Thursday (July 24).

The company will have hot dogs, pop, and chips for $6, with all proceeds going back to the Wheatland County Food Bank.

Frank Friesen is the general manager of Strathmore Flooring, and he explained why they are supporting the food bank.

Strathmore RCMP arrest man allegedly stealing irrigation equipment

The RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) helped arrest an alleged irrigation equipment thief earlier this month.

According to police, SAD CRU began investigating a series of thefts from irrigation pivots in May, alongside Strathmore and Brooks RCMP.

"These thefts began in the area of Wheatland County, and the investigation led to a suspect being identified," wrote RCMP in a news release.

McCain Foods looks for new processing potatoes

Company works with Farming Smarter Association as it searches for options other than the century-old Russet Burbank variety.

Russet Burbank has been the go to potato variety for Canadian farmers and consumers.

This year, McCain Foods in Chin, Alta., has entered a corporate partnership with the Farming Smarter Association to explore the viability of other varieties in its food processing plant for farmers to consider.

Farming Smarter is using one of its commercial plots to do a research trial growing four varieties using six treatments.

Tour Alberta for Cancer raises over $9,400,000 for cancer research

The Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer made a stop in Strathmore over the weekend.

On Saturday (July 19) and Sunday, hundreds of riders from across the country raced around town before meeting back at the Strathmore Ag Grounds. The race led to lane closures on Brent Boulevard and Wheatland Trail.

Many of the racers have a personal connection to cancer. One rider, Richard Webb, is a cancer survivor himself.

Strathmore non-profit receives $3.5M for affordable housing initiative

True North Society has received $3.5 million through the Affordable Housing Partnership Program.

The society was selected as a recipient on June 24, and MLA Chantelle de Jonge, who advocated for the funding, presented the cheque to the organization.

 It is full steam ahead at Genesis Fertilizers despite a tumultuous June, say proponents of the proposed Saskatchewan mega-project.

“It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when we get this project off the ground,” said Terry Drabiuk, vice-president of business development with Genesis.

The project is a proposed $2.89 billion, farmer-owned nitrogen fertilizer plant to be built in Belle Plaine, Sask.

The studio specializes in myofunctional therapy, a practice that is becoming increasingly mainstream but differs from traditional dental and orthodontic care.
