China retaliates over EV tariffs with anti-dumping probe into Canadian canola imports
China has announced an anti-dumping investigation into Canadian canola imports in response to Canada planning to impose tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, steel and aluminum.
In a news release Tuesday, China's Ministry of Commerce said it is launching an anti-discrimination investigation into the tariffs and an anti-dumping probe into Canadian canola imports as well as certain chemical products.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Aug. 26 that Canada will impose a 100 per cent tariff on Chinese EVs and a 25 per cent tariff on steel and aluminum.
Yacht enthusiasts flock to Chestermere for Alberta Sailing Provincials
This past weekend Chestermere Lake was transformed into a yacht lovers' dream.
Stepehn Reichenfeld, past commodore at the Calgary Yacht Club says the 2024 Alberta Sailing Provincials were held in the city and welcomed sailors from across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.
"It's a combination of the competitive sailing season in Alberta. it also counts as a double points regatta in the Alberta series."
Mayor Pat Fule calls for water saving efforts as restrictions continue in Strathmore
The City of Calgary provided an additional update on Tuesday (Sept 3.) on the work on the Bearspaw South Feeder Water Main.
Repairs are scheduled to be finished by September 23 and excavation at 11 repair sites has been completed.
According to the city, concrete pouring has also started at additional repair segments.
Calgary is currently under Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions and staff with the city are asking residents from Strathmore, and Chestermere to conserve water.

An unnamed FortisAlberta employee was also injured in the altercation.
Strathmore Curling Club to kick off season with open house
The Strathmore & District Curling Club is gearing up to host its season opener information session on Wednesday (Sept. 18) at 7 p.m.
Snacks and refreshments will be available for new and returning curlers interested in attending. The event will be held at the Strathmore Curling Rink.
Staff with the club also said only 10 spots are left in each age group for junior curling.
No experience is needed for anyone from ages eight to 18 years old.

Town of Strathmore announces funding review for local organizations
Strathmore Town Council wants to hear from community groups as the town aims to support non-profits, service clubs, and sports groups.
According to the town, this will be done through the Community Delegation Night on Wednesday (Oct. 23) by reviewing applications to ensure they can continue their work.
Organizations providing services in Strathmore are encouraged to apply for group funding, which will be evaluated to bolster their success in the community.
Strathmore's Pizza 249 hosts YETI program finale for aspiring young business owners
The Young Entrepreneurs Training Initiative (YETI) celebrated the end of its 2024 program with a pizza party.
The event was held at Pizza 249 in Strathmore, with the family and friends of the two graduates arriving to celebrate. The program lasts eight weeks and serves to aid young entrepreneurs build a startup business over the summer.
