Final chance at Sweetheart of a Deal Auction items

Over 1,300 items will fly off the auction block in Swift Current today and find new homes.

The final day for the Sweetheart of a Deal Online Auction on Swift Current Online is underway with items beginning to close at 9 a.m.

Over 400 items as of last night in the auction still didn't have bids allowing customers a chance to score deals at a fraction of their retail value.

Folks across the southwest and beyond will have a chance over the next eight days to score Cyber Monday-like deals on Swift Current Online.

The annual Sweetheart of a Deal Online Auction is back on Swift Current Online beginning at 6 a.m. today with bidding closing throughout Feb. 21.

Over $250,000 in products are listed on the local auction with 1,334 items to be won.

Businesses across southwestern Saskatchewan aiming to find the perfect hire will have a chance to gain some valuable knowledge later this week.

Homefield People and Strategy will be hosting a lunch & learn session in Swift Current on Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Lunch and a networking session will cover the first half hour.

Patrick Friesen, a consultant with Homefield, said the bulk of the event will have a learning session focusing on recruitment to help strengthen the local business community.

Previous care home director charged with fraud

A Gull Lake resident will be heading to Swift Current for a court hearing at the end of the month, facing one charge of fraud over $5,000. 

According to a statement from Saskatchewan RCMP Media, an investigation started in early December following a report of fraud at a Gull Lake care home.

Officers with Swift Current Rural RCMP have determined that Tayler Hall, previous director of Autumn House Independent Living Facility, was overpaid for hours worked and paid for hours not worked.

Hit and run driver caught in Maple Creek

The driver of an SUV that was involved in a hit and run in Maple Creek last week has been charged.

The vehicle hit a parked black SUV on January 4 and left significant damage to the rear driver-side door before fleeing the scene.

Police found the driver on Friday and issued a ticket for driving without care and attention.

No injuries resulted from the collision.

Rogue Cruisers go up a gear for 2024 with non-profit status

The Rogue Cruisers will be operating a little differently in 2024. 

Announced earlier this morning on the group's Facebook page, the car club has officially become a registered non-profit.

Cory Schultz, one of the co-founding members of the Rogue Cruisers, is happy they have this in place going forward. He is confident it won't mean any big changes for their members.

Phoney handgun suspect released on conditions

A man facing a list of charges stemming from an alleged fake handgun incident in Swift Current during October received bail earlier today.

Daniel Koldingnes was released on conditions including house arrest (24-hour curfew), to use an electronic monitoring unit, and other unspecified details.

The Leader resident is alleged to have entered a business on North Service Road around 2 a.m. on October 7 with a handgun.

Country 94.1 handing out swag at Broncos game

Tonight's Swift Current Broncos game will certainly feel and sound a bit more like southwestern Saskatchewan.

That's because Swift Current's newest radio station Country 94.1 is sponsoring the Broncos contest against the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers.

Kingdom of Canada host cuts court

The owner of the former school in Richmound which housed the Kingdom of Canada has failed to appear in court after his arrest for assault back in early October. 

59-year-old Ricky Manz brought Romana Didulo and followers into the town by offering them a place to stay, however, his arrest and subsequent disregard for an appearance in court stirred things up. The group fled the town yesterday and found sanctuary on a farm seven miles north of Richmound. Members of the group are staying in camper vans and RVs.

Richmound sees reprieve as 'Kingdom of Canada' moves north

The situation in Richmound is moving, as Romana Didulo and others have packed up and headed to a local farm. 

Richmound residents were thrilled to see that the RVs and motorhomes parked at the school were packing up. It was only when they turned away from the highway, heading north on a grid road that they realized something was strange. 

Arlene Miller, a resident in Richmound, was disheartened to learn they had moved only seven miles out of town.
