Swift Current proposes name change if Taylor Swift returns to province

A province-wide campaign to catch the attention of international pop star Taylor Swift has taken over Saskatchewan, especially the southwest. 

#BackToSaskatch caught the attention of some Swift Current dignitaries, leading to a proposal to change the city's name to an eponym of the singer, should she visit the province. 

Swift Current MLA Everett Hindley is one of the local leaders standing behind the playful proposition.

As part of a province-wide effort to catch the attention of international phenomenon, Taylor Swift, the City of Swift Current is offering to pay tribute to her by (temporarily) changing its name if she makes a visit to the province.

Several connected break and enters result in two arrests by City RCMP

Two Swift Current residents were recently arrested in relation to several break and enters. 

According to a media release from the Swift Current City RCMP, a report of theft from a motor vehicle on Valley Point Way came in just before 7 a.m. on Wednesday. 

Investigation and public assistance led officers to a dwelling on South Service Road East, where they arrested 27-year-old Donny Gurney and 19-year-old Kylie Beattie. 

Swift Current RCMP receiving reports of suspicious van

Alarming reports circulating on several social media platforms recently, have many parents in the southwest feeling concerned.

This morning Swift Current City RCMP confirmed that they have received multiple reports about a white van frequenting parks and a school in the city, and three men in it allegedly taking photos of young kids. 

However, there's no evidence at this time to confirm that a criminal act has occurred. 

Ex Swift Current resident facing warrant in B.C. for animal cruelty

A warrant for the arrest of a former Swift Current resident with a history of animal abuse allegations was issued on May 2 out of Duncan Provincial Courthouse. 

Tanisha Kendall (Perrault) and Rhees Kendall were first visited by BCSPCA on Aug. 2, 2023, and are each facing nine charges of animal cruelty out of Ladysmith, B.C. and a hefty fine of over $89,000.    

Ex Maple Creek Teacher hit with fourth historical sexual assault charge

Dexter Bacsu was first arrested on April 26, 2023, and has since been rearrested three additional times.

An RCMP release this morning stated that another report of a historical sexual assault received in July has led to more repercussions for the former teacher.

Bacsu appeared in Maple Creek Provincial Court yesterday, he was charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference. 

UPDATE: RCMP search for missing Swift Current teenager

Shadyn Wentworth has been located.

The Swift Current City RCMP are searching for missing Shadyn Wentworth and are asking for the public's assistance in finding her.

The 17-year-old was last seen in downtown Swift Current around 1 p.m. yesterday, wearing a black hoodie and camouflage leggings. Wentworth is five-foot-five, 110 pounds, with dark hair and brown eyes. 

Swift Current Rural RCMP searching for stolen RM of Carmichael truck

Swift Current Rural RCMP are searching for a stolen truck.

The 1996 Dodge Ram truck was stolen from the RM of Carmichael in Gull Lake early this morning.

The truck is white, with a slip tank in the back, accompanied by a steel rack. There is also a yellow emergency light on top of the cab. The rear window bears a decal, and a white "RM 109" sticker.

The truck has license plate number 614-CKB.

If anyone spots the vehicle, do not approach. Call 306-310-7267 to alert RCMP.
